Hooray! Bad timing, in that it's out the day after the new OoT3 release, but still- hope some of you get to check it out. This will be announced tomorrow from http://www.breathe-comp.com

You really have talent when it comes to composing your songs. Many of them have genuinely good melodies and structure...but sometimes your sound selections are too cheesy for me! It's hard for me to tell if Santa's white Espresso is supposed to be funny/ironic or not because of the string sounds, and the bagpipe sound in Glimpse of Self distracts me from an otherwise awesome song. You might want to buy a good reverb suite or something for when you are mixing your songs and see if you could make them less dry and upfront sounding.
Firstly, thanks for the complimentsjonnyjj74 wrote:You really have talent when it comes to composing your songs. And yes, people tell me a lot that some of my sounds come off cheesy sounding. I don't really get it. I mean, I see what you all mean, but I'm not sure why that type of sound is automatically 'bad'? I see how it is cheesy but that's how I wanted it.
The bagpipe noise in Glimpse of Self is probably the guitar you're hearing. Using a 20 dollar USB stick-shaped microphone makes all my guitar work sound...terrible. I usually then massacre the recording with effects, so things get too chaotic/poor quality a lot of times (just from a general lack of skills on my part. I get good ideas but my mixing/production abilities lag behind still). Glad you liked that track though. There will be a full video to that one out this summer.
I'm slowly learning/getting better equipment to get the sounds right. Thanks for the feedback, it always helps me when I go to make the next album. Glad you liked the release.
Twicks 4:47+
Some very tightly weaved intricate melodies that work really well with each other, wonderful!
Also I really like Crystal Dance, it reminds me of Booka Shade but slightly more ambient and spacey.
Respect for putting it up there for free, I know there's plenty of people out there who wouldn't do that but it tells me your all about the music (and that the music is all about you
)
All the Best.
Edit: Realizing your own mortality just came on, that piano sounds amazing. If you wouldn't mind sharing your techniques on how you crafted such a nice sound I would be eager to learn. Totally up to you of course. Quality!

As for the piano in 'realizing your own mortality'- I use Ableton Live and had gotten their incredible Essential Instruments Collection (HIGHLY recommended). I just EQ-ed the piano how I wanted it and added a little reverb to it. Most of the sounds in that song come from that pack, including the harp picking and also the noise that opens the song (that's a french horn that I put some distrotion on and a few other effects to grain it up some).
I'm a huge fan of anything Ableton though. I always swear by it and recommend it over anything else I've seen/tried.
Ahhh I see! I've always been an avid user of Ableton but I never got round to buying those instrument packs, I will definitely give it a second thought now though after hearing that piano!
(I can hear the french horny-ness now you mention it! Nice Job!)
Have you thought about upgrading to Live 8 by the way? I've heard very very good things about it.
Keep at it anyway mate I look forward to listening to future releases.

Rent is a necessity, but I start my new teaching job this week, so maybe i'll get the upgrade by the end of summer if I'm lucky.
The album has gotten mad downloads already, so I'm pleased. Check it out everyone
