Reggae, anyone?

So the hip-hop thread got me thinking. Obviously people on this board generally have a wide taste in music. Maybe someone can show me some new reggae that I can dig? I've always been a drummer, and for some reason, a good complex reggae beat is pure gold to my ears. It's a very different and difficult style to play relative to most others I think. But from any standpoint, beats/melodies/mc's, who do you like?

I'm don't usually take anything too seriously--I don't drive around in my car all day smoking blunts and blasting beats (despite how much i subconsciously want to), I'm a reserved dirty hippy at heart I think. But anyway, I've found that I gravitate towards almost a hip-hop/reggae. A few of my favorites besides the more obvious like Bob Marley and Sublime:

I'll take some n00b recommendations, since I know absolutely nothing about reggae other than its connections to Bob Marley, Rastafarians and weed.

Nice, looks like I have my work cut out for me looking some of this up. I have about a million eek-a-mouse/king tubby/lee perry sets. great stuff for the most part although eek can get very repetitive with his "bong-bong-digga-digga-bong-bong-sheebahdee-bong-bong" on every track.

311's reggae stuff was always really pleasing to me growing up (champagne, amber, etc.) I'm going to run off now and explore these recommendations. thanks!

p.s.-anybody seen the movie rockers? it's pretty good whether or not you can understand the Jamaican dialog. I believe there are subtitles though too. You'll need a large smoke though to be truly fascinated. Here's an intro clip to show you what you're in for: VID

Thirded. Worth checking out Prince Far I and Burning Spear too. Grew up with reggae on late night radio. Had no idea what dub plates were at the time but they sounded magnificent.

burning spear is great. keith hudson's pick a dub is also a good album. I'm a drummer too, and a huge chad sexton fan (311). some of his best beats were on the music album and grassroots, just sick. I've been listening to reggae for over a decade and I still don't know what a "dub plate" is?

yes. awesome. what the hell there is like one documentary on reggae music. great footage from the studio. everyone is so stoned.
