I saw a trailer on (UK) TV for some crime drama, and the accompanying music was ROYGBIV. Unusual choice.

Documentaries on the BBC tend to use Boards of Canada and sometimes Four Tet and stuff like that (this is all prolly more suited to the 'weird places to hear BoC thread' though).

I know the t.v. show Top Gear uses them once in a blue moon....

I'm ashamed at liking top gear :roll:

although they did play Sixtyten fairly recently
they also play tracks from Aphex's 26 Mixes For Cash on a regular basis as well

I know there are gaping problems with it, but it is good entertainment.

How about it is ridiculously contrived now? In fact I can predict what next weeks episode will be.

Synopsis:

James, Hammond, and Jeremy are given a pointless task to achieve which involves driving cars. James buys something classic and boring, Jeremy buys something outrageous, and Hammond buys something stupid. They get into a series of wacky situations which are obviously set up and planned months in advance, and argue about who's chose the best car. Interview a celebrity who just happens to have a film, book, or album coming out. Oh, and review a car at some point.

The format of the show is so utterly predictable now, non of the predicaments they get into are real, it's all scripted. There's nothing massively wrong with it, it can still be moderately entertaining. It's just the format is stale and predictable, each series is the same of the last, just with different cars.

Hmm, good point, but by now no one really expects them to be serious, no one is surprised at the cock-ups, and it's still genuinely funny and enjoyable to watch.

Agreed. And i still love the work the cameramen/editors do.

I feel a bit bad for them, they keep having to find new ways to show off how good the cars look. Some of their camera work is quite stunning, they're very inventive.
