Dear Twoism community, READ ONLY IF YOU WANT EP SPOILERS!

As the previous thread stated the "trans canada highway" leaked, and at this
point being transfered from one file sharing app to another. Big surprise?
Anyway, I listened to the ep after a nice big dinner and was greatly disappointed.
I'll tell all of you why.

1. Left Side Drive 5:20: First off, before I get off to a bad start I'd like to say
I greatly enjoyed the ending of this song. Classic boards! Think "last walk on mirror lake"
synth meets "'84 pontiac drive" guitar phaser shit with a slice of "Olson 3" synth tweeks.
Some incredible sounds here. Very "Kid for Today" sans the heavy percussion build up.
The beginning fades in and goes nowhere for about 3 mins, before the boards treat you with something sweet. Everyone one on here will like this track because there's really nothing not to like, but it is formulaic boards. Overall the best track on the EP.

2. Heard from telegraph Lines 1:09: My first thought after hearing it was...WTF? That's it.. are
you fucking kidding me. I'm one of those boards people that grooves more with the short
tracks than the quote on quote "full-length tracks", but not this time. Sounds like bad christ, for
those of you who know the christ sound. The most monotonous and lacking boards track I've ever
heard. I know that's a bold statement, but take my word for it.
Definitely a throw away.

3. Skyliner: you know

4 Under the coke sign 1:31: again WTF? is this for real? The beginning of the track is exactly
the same as the traffic noise found at the beginning of "84 pontiac dream" followed with another
monotonous synth melody with the traffic noise straight throughout the track. Terrible.

5. Dayvan cowboy (odd nosdam remix) 9:19: wait for it........Terrible. The only reason
this piece of shit track ended up on this EP is because cLOUDDEAD and the boards are friends,
and the boards probably felt obligated to release it. Don't get me wrong, the version of
"Dead dogs Two" by the boards is one of the coolest things I've ever heard. That kind of
production on a track can only indicate the most genious of creative power, but odd nosdam fall
into that category. He's not in a position to be remixing boards music. Trust me. Sounds
like it's the first remix he's ever done. The whole things fades in a out, laced with
the original track underneath distorted through various sequencers looped again & again, to the point
where your waiting for the beat to come, but once it arrives your ready for it to stop. Why?
Because it sucks. People who interpret this as innovative can kiss my ass.

Summary: I realized as I was writing this that these tracks where probably B-sides from the
headphase record, so if you keep that in mind, you won't be as disappointed as I was. Secondly,
the tracks times where bullshit because everyone agrees on this forum that an EP should be four full length
tracks with substance. Not that I'm against changing the form, but the music just didn't hold up this time.
To give boards of canada the benefit of the doubt, all of you questioning my comments can read
my comments from other threads to differentiate between this & your beliefs. I would hope that
boards of canada take an LSD trip in the near future and rethink their approach for the next record, because damn boys, we know you can do better than this. Next time they should have bibio remix a track all acoustic. Maybe a little four tet remix wouldn't hurt. That would be a change. Also, I didn't care for the Dayvan cowboy video- if you were wondering

One last thing.

I'm not one of the those bastards that doesn't buy music like some of the
dipshits on this board. Music enhances my life everyday and I buy
records every chance I can to show my appreciation. Buy music you love
or your fucking the artist in the arse that worked so hard to please you.

Prizmodo - your review seems pretty well argued and I can only asume that your are probably close to the mark in your evaluation. Evenso, i still hope that you have somehow listened to a convincing fake rather than the real thing. The Dayvan Video was on MTV UK & Ireland at 4am GMT yesterday which still, despite your words, has me in the mood for the EP. Thanks for the due warning though.

I also downloaded it and listened it. (Have no fear, I pre-ordered the things some weeks ago, obviously).

01 - dayvan cowboy

We all know this one.. it's still very nice.. one of my favourite tracks of The Campfire Headphase.

02 - left side drive

Very enjoyable track and I don't think it's going nowhere in the first three minutes.. kinda weird statement imho prizmodo.. I think the track is very nice from beginning and even nicer at the end. Classic BoC.

03 - heard from telegraph lines

Nice short interlude.. a bit old-tunes-esque. I like it.

04 - skyliner

WOW. This one in full qualiy sounds gorgeous

The thumping bass in it is really nice and the dreaming synths... delicious imho.

05 - under the coke sign

Yet again a short interlude; this time with some crackling vinyl sound in it and a lot of foggy reverb. A fine interlude but I like the previous interlude better.

06 - dayvan cowboy (odd nosdam rmx)

a lo-fi stretched version of the original.. sounds kinda harsh and loud imo but that's typical to this style.. it's not bad actually but I kinda dislike the fade in and fade out; it divides the track in 3 tracks.. the middle one is best imo..

Overall I think it's a good ep but not a killer.

PS: listening to "left side drive" again.. that's a friggin' very nice track.. I love it. Best new track on the ep definitely.

L S D is a great track. VERY happy. Glacieral? perfect word. IMO the highlight of the EP. Introduces some really nice sounds in the beginning (So who's going to be the first to tell us what the reversed stuff in the beginning is?)
When the dry ice sounding synths kick in, you know you are in for it. The beat is nice and builds up beautifully....I really love this track. Something to keep you cool on a hot summer day. Thanks guys!

Under the Coke Sign....Is one of those tracks.....I can see this becoming one of those tracks that will tie to a ton of memories this summer. It's not a long track or a particularly stand out one, but you'll see. Great synth melody with crackle and pop.

Heard From Telegraph Lines...Nice little melody, sounds like it's coming from inside of a church. When I raced downhill mtn bikes, I would have listened to this before a race. Calming and vast.

Odd Nostram Remix...Honestly, I'm not sure what to make of this. I like some of the texture, but seems to go absolutely nowhere. The fade outs? Not sure what they were thinking there. Could have been a strong(ish) track if not for the fades.

I'm reviewing these only after a few listens, but I think I have a good grasp on them. I know LSD will get even better and the shorter tracks will unfold to show even more depth.

I have to say i'm tempted to download, but i think i'll wait all the for that package to land on the doormat. I hope it's not as bad as some of you think. The early reaction to Headphase was kind of similar, so i hope this one's a grower too.

I really wanted to wait till I got my copy from Warp, but Seeing as I've already heard "Skyliner" I figured what the hell I might as well hear the other 3 tracks and the remix. Prizmodo; your review seems very harsh and I urge you to keep listening. I would consider this a single with a few B-sides rather than an ep though. The 4 new tracks only clock in at a whoping 13.6 minutes. This leaves me not dissapointed but craving for more, and I think that was Boards intent with this release.

Left Side Drive has great clicky drums and an amazing atmosphere with a cool ending. Hearing this right after Dayvan is a pleasant surprise, it's Boc returning to form and doing a damn good job at it. If you hear this track with good speakers and a subwoofer it fuckin bumps! I think everyone knows my opinion about Skyliner by now, this is my favorite track by far on the ep and one of my favorite boc tracks overall. I must admit that I was a bit peeved after discovering 2 interlude tracks, but they're both gorgeous. Under The Coke sign contains the only audible vocal sample of the whole ep and it has the same characteristics of Trails, yet totally different. The remix, in my opinion, is the only forgettable track here and that's ok cause it's not even Boc. It's really like 3 tracks rolled into one, but the only good part is the middle when the beat kicks in.

Here's a cool idea for those of you feeling a bit jipped by this release. I have it set up in my itunes playlist like this; Replace Dayvan Cowboy with the track from the revamped website. It works good as an intro and we've all heard Dayvan enough times and it works better with the tracks on Campfire. The loop/track from the website has the same kinda feel as the rest of the tracks on the ep. Then, just trash the remix cause honestly it's not worth it. Maybe if there was a way to cut out the beginning and end and just leave the middle, but I just don't have the patience for this track. From the 4 minute mark to the 6 minute mark it's good, maybe with time it'll grow on me...If you listen to it like this, it's almost as good as IABPOITC....almost.

I'm going to wait for the CD to arrive in my letter box, then, unlike the stuff you lot are listening to, I'll know it's DEFINITELY not a fake (unless a little monster is going around at night posting fake CDs in people's letter boxes!)

(typed this last night to start a thread but my internet was down)

First impressions are a bitch, but let's share them anyways!

I think that it will be hard for any lover of BoC to be dissapointed by the material of theirs on this EP. After Dayvan there isn't a single recognizeable guitar, although there are really only two new full length tracks (L.S.D. and Skyliner). I am somewhat surprised that there are two short interlude tracks considering the length of the release and how significant a segment of it the Odd Nosdam remix takes up. Of these I very much liked Under The Coke Sign and wished it wasn't so brief.

I'm not too sure what to make of the remix yet - I've been tired all day and had to repeat the first two minutes after dozing off to it while laying in bed in the dark. It left me the impression of gazing down a long tunnel to find a distorted reflection at the end. That and looking in the mirror while on a psychedelic. A modern day Echoes if you will.

can't wait to listen again and have it sink in deeper.

Those track times were added at the same time the leak came out, and surely you are aware that anyone can edit Wikipedia. The person who added those track times might've just been someone who heard this leak. I'm not saying it's fake, I'm just saying you can't be 100% sure yet. I haven't even listened to it, and I couldn't care less really, because waiting 3 weeks isn't going to kill me.

Me. I heard Skyliner once on the Warp site but I won't be downloading the leaks. Not for any superior self-denial type reasons, I just perfer to hear it properly on a decent hifi. Only 3 weeks to go anyway...
