But seriously, how many of these little regulations that slip under the radar will it take before the US becomes a police state? I hate to be the guy that says this, as I'm normally the one laughing at the tin-foil hat types, but this is ridiculous.

As I was saying to Waterbagel...

I'm not surprised. If you're going to put cameras on every street in a country, you're definitely going to want to develop a system that makes them more useful and efficient. Face recognition and data storage would be the only logical step.

I heard Orwell got some of his inspiration from folks in the Fabian Society, much in the same way that Huxley did when he wrote Brave New World. The only difference being Orwell was opposed to things heading in this direction while Huxley embraced it.

The EN-ESS-EH is building an enormous facility near me right now that supposedly is going to have like "yaddaflops" of data storage, or whatever the denomination (something like 10^24). That would do the job pretty well I'd say if they're planning on saving loads of video...

I've heard this too. Huxley's stance on a lot of things was always very confusing to me, particularly after I read doors of perception. I guess I thought psychedelic use had a tendency to strike empathetic and humanistic chords in everyone, not the 'opposite'.

Have you read Brave New World? It's pretty clear he was against a lot of the things he was showing. Reading Island definitely clears up his stance on the rest.

I've got it but haven't read it yet. Not exactly sure how I heard he was for these things instead of against them.
