Re: keyboard nerds: from one source all things depend

also, i noticed they hid that recurring motif (IV, III, I in the 6th measure of the bass clef) that they tend to use in a lot of songs.

So it does, nice spotting. Had you seen my vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECLELkeAvyk ? or did you independently recognize the reoccurrence? Either is an ...

keyboard nerds: from one source all things depend

i think i mostly figured out the very indiscernible and elusive synth/organ progression in FOSATD. i'm sure it's not 100% accurate but it sounds pretty close. this has been bugging me for years and i finally sat down and surgically listened and transcribed it out. thought some of you might enjoy it ...

Re: Things you notice after years of listening

the coolest thing i can think of right now is the reverse rhodes piano arpeggio in the second half of tears from the compound eye. i always thought it was just an overtone from the dense synths but the more i listened and the more i worked with my own reversing rhodes lines on tracks, i noticed that ...

1995 WKCR hijacking

i'm sure some of you have already seen/heard this, but I thought i'd share it as BOC fans in general might be interested in this sort of thing. it's definitely on the horrific side of the creepy/unsettling, but it's an intense and masterfully executed hoax for sure, IMO. it reminds me of a lot of ...

made this with some BOC-esque chord structures

it doesn't sound like BOC tone-wise particularly but I wanted to explore the one of the methods they seem to use by having a 4 chord progression with 4 major chords. i assume they did that a lot because they would sample a single chord and then just transpose it every measure. makes for a ...

This question is a paradox.

You can do some pretty cool stuff if you incorporate classic music theory in generative algorythms.
People who realized that fact made some really good shit :D

Re: Musical performances

with my project (me, a pianist, 3 viola players, and a synth player), if the music fits, i've found mostly darkness to be more effective than even the best visuals. i have them turn off all the house lights, and i have 4-6 (depending on venue size) LED par64 cans set at the back of the stage angled ...

Re: Help Anvil Stereo Learn How to Music

listen religiously to the music you love the most. dissect every last tiny bit of minutiae and find out how it works by itself, and then in relation to every other bit. do this repetitively for 10-15 years. write down the cognitions you have when doing this. study them every friday after 5pm. pick ...

Re: Instant Boards of Canada in Ableton

a cheaper better way to get the BOC sound in ableton is to not strangle your CPU with plugins and just create a hardware send to a VHS player and then bounce it back :) source: can confirm its 10000% better because i tried it. and it's easy as fuck. no excuses.
