this isn't a hip indie film. this is one of the most expensive movies that will probably ever be made. the plot IS pandering. and there is a lot of action and a lot of explosions! but is it fun to look at? you bet! the characters are TOTALLY black and white. but do you care about them? surprisingly, yes! the bad guy is one of the best i've seen in a while! the only character i didn't like was that nerdy guy. that actor just sucked.

and for the record, in my opinion, district 9 was still a better movie. but it didn't do as well in theaters. when a movie costs 300 million, you need to make sure that everyone can get into it.

also, while i'm at it, fantastic mr. fox is the best movie i've seen in years. no CGI in that, all stop animation! absolute beauty! i loved it more than avatar, but guess what, it did terribly in the box office as well! go figure.

i recommend everyone shell out the 15 bucks it takes to see avatar in IMAX-3D. because once it's out of theaters, you have lost your chance to see it this way. it's not like you can rent the dvd and get what everyone was talking about. so just see it while it's still playing. its a fun movie!

passionately articulated, but i still think i'm just gonna save the 15 bucks and buy Mr Fox twice when it comes out on DVD. i'd rather -not- know what everyone's raving about. i'd rather in 30 years when people ask "oh man and remember avatar?" i can be like "no."

No. Dude. See this movie at an Imax. It will melt your fucking face!

Today i saw the Avatar - just one grate blockbaster for a such humans )
I appreciate 3d style but not in a grate way - only in good )
Story line kinda intersting, music too but "the film of the year" it's hard to call because it's a first film with those technology and it hasn't any opponents

Just a good film - not Grate or Exellent for me )))

This movie is a SHAME ! God... :shock:

It's a shame for cinema, for S.F, for design, for script, even about the music of my friend James Horner. No originality, it's so kitsch... I'm higly traumatized, i'm a s.f lover, shit IoI

Maybe the movie is a public and critical success because we don't have a good s.f or action movie since a while.

"Thurd" is a compliment for this film.

Anyhoo, this movie was visually stunning and I enjoyed it. I don't care how lacking of originality it is.

I was beforehand already warned for the plot. Indeed, it wasn't that complicated, but I didn't mind actually. I like every know and then a feel good movie. And with not that much expectations, I wasn't disappointed.

I loved the setting and the visuals. Would like to see more of this world. Maybe not Avatar II but some Planet Earth like stuff would be appreciated. The helicopter lizards were really nice to watch. Music was decent, didn't annoy me, but didn't leave any memory also. Not bad, but also not extraordinary. The only negative points were that 3d gave me a headache (as most 3d movies do) and the 3d looked sometimes more layered than really 3d (hope you get what I mean). And already said before, they took papyrus as Na'vi subtitle font, I guess papyrus is the new comic sans :S

I understand why people get depressed by this movie (although not experiencing it). The flying is close to how I imagine real flying is (or even freedom). Also the unison/intimacy between Na'vi, animals, plant, planet etc can be depressing, especially for lonely people I guess. But that maybe more of a psychological discussion....

Overall I liked the movie a lot.

Hahahahahahahahahha. The same people who experience "depression" after seeing this movie because they wish they lived in a magical CGI world are obviously the same people who dressed up as hobbits for LOTR. Escapism getting a little weird.

But yep, I'd see it again.

Yeah, I know right!

I saw it twice and I thought that it was THE best movie in the world. Then I found a picture on the internet that was a full plotline of Pocahontas but someone had went through it, scratched out all the proper nouns, and replaced them with ones from Avatar. It lined up perfectly.

Visually, it's still a great movie, but now.... :roll:

I heard a rather touching story of a man blind in one eye (no depth perception) and then being absolutely astounded by the movie because it gave him a sense of depth even with one eye's sight; said it was the most amazing thing he's ever seen, like he had both his eyes again :l
