Ambient BoC?

ambient boc would be lovely, i'm hoping for something different to be honest, i cant really listen to a lot of the darker boc songs these days!

The part in You Could Feel The Sky where the guy screams and moans... in a dark basement alone, during a heat wave...

by far the most menacing boc track for me. takes me right back to my childhood - my dad used to play old vhs of huge machinery and explosions of vast amounts of rock every so often, deep analog synthesizer pads rumbling in the background. anyhow...i used to love taking apart the layers of this song when on drugs - its incredible what's buried in this track. pressure pressure pressure...

I love that they have a whole palette of stuff from nostalgia and childlike innocence to the darker bleaker material to chill out/trip hop. That's what makes them great. an hour straight of frenetic drum machines set to high BPM's (which isn't their style) or an hour of dark ambient would be boring.

I would hope that the new album as a little of everything you expect and something you didn't.

Personally, I hope that the new album will be complete different from their previous work. Each album before was an entity of it's own and I hope they continue with that trend.

I think, with their new album they should head in the ambient direction. I would love to hear more tracks like Echus and Corsair. Not sure if that's 'ambient' but I would love to see them go in that direction. Rather than guitar. IMO Even thought Dayvan Cowboy and Peacock Tail are absolutely MINT, I think BoC has more potential in the other direction. Besides, synths are more nostalgic!

As far as bands go, usually they progress from one style to another, and Boards is one of the best examples of this happening. If you have ever listened to their stuff from Old Tunes you can interpret that their album Boc Maxima is a large representation of their sound just before they went major.

Then, MHTRTC has a few of the songs from Maxima but instead sides for a more warm and colorful style of electronic synths, but still in their ambient stage.

Geogaddi was released, and this album not only gives you a glimpse of who they were, but what they would eventually become as music artists. This is practically where their ambient sound came into a large effect near the end of that album.

Then TCH came out, and you could hear a bit of the influence from the last album, but definitely not as much as Geogaddi's relationship to MHTRTC.

What is so important for Boards about this album is that TCH represents a brand new dierection for Boards. I get the feeling from this album that they are not completely ditching their old sound, but instead revitalizing it. There is a strong pull, a feeling of "letting go" and floating out among the cosmos. The two mainstream hits from this album were Chromakey Dreamcoat and Dayvan Cowboy, which both contain the floating element that I mentioned earlier, but I challenge you to take a look at Tears and Farewell at the end of the album. There is definitely a new sound in there, a new feel, but still combined with their same nostalgic and ambient touch.

Also, in a music theory scope, their chord structures have drastically been changed too. I think that Boards have always been dedicated to an experience on an emotional level, but they are now alluding to different things and doing it in different ways.

I think that this is Boards way of saying that it's time for a change of pace in their music, and that this is the way that they are going about doing it. Because if there is one thing in any art that makes you feel bad, it's doing the same thing twice.

From a retrospective glance, I feel that this gives Boards lots of depth not only in music but in character.

As for the new album, we may expect to see a brand new style that we haven't heard before, a build on their TCH style, or a new approach from their old style. But, from my point of view, I would have to predict that it would either be the first two, but I digress: I have had weird experiences with psychic activities, but this does not mean that I can predict the future.

(EDIT: had to change THC to TCH in the last paragraph. I don't intend to mix up the active chemical in weed with Boards, but they do mix well together!)

I want something really twisted, personally. Something totally strange like Alpha and Omega or An Eagle in Your Mind. I really hope they don't do something like TCH again, frankly that's not the style of music I'm that interested in anymore... Though Trans Canada Highway is fantastic and I'd totally approve of something like that, haha.

Sure! Sorry for the long reply time. I haven't been on the forum for a while.


What I am saying here is that the way that they structure their sound is different. They approach it in a different way and with different notes. Take Tears From The Compund Eye. This almost sounds like a hymn, and although Boards has done something like this before, it's never been so raw and distinct. It's not something that is very nostalgic anymore either (which maybe why some people don't like this album as much as Geogaddi and MHTRC), but instead has a different feel. This is because they are moving out of their old ways, and experimenting with different chord structures, textures, and emotions.

I hope this clears this up...and sorry if it's still confusing. I write a lot on my computer and using big words comes automatically to me...kind of annoying, really.

This just shows how eclectic they can be, beatless BoC has chunks of variety.

Pity this guy hasn't been on the forum since 2015, I'm very curious what kind of dreams would come about as a result of sleeping to these ones lmao

As for me I usually don't fall asleep to BoC, more often than not there's too much stuff going on in the music that keeps me awake (though this may mostly be because I have a hard time falling asleep to music with percussion or vocals unless they're super understated). That being said though, there's still a decent handful of BoC tracks that show up in my sleep playlists:
