I find the concept of sexuality fascinating. I guess I've been quite lucky in my life that I've been friends with gay/ straight/ bi and going a bit further transvestites/ transexuals... basically the whole gamut and have seen it from pretty much every angle possible. I personally see it as being a fluid concept with no definite article other than those that are consciously or subconsciously imposed by the individual upon themselves. How people choose to define this aspect of their life, whether through social conditioning, ease of group identification, personal politics or what have you is intriguing because I think it ultimately defies a fundamental fact of life that emotion transcends the physical plane we often choose to limit ourselves to. Do you want to go out and fuck a guy? Maybe not. Could you fall in love with a guy? Of course you can.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that through social convention it's often a necessity to "identify" ourselves through sexuality and that a lot of people fall at the first hurdle by seing things in a purely physical sense and aren't able to get past that, but by opening up to the whole world of possibility and understanding that can come from such a minor aspect of human life you have no idea how your life may be changed.

But anyway, to answer the question, I'm not any denomination, I'm just sexual.

Actually, I am attracted to women physically, but I could never love one - or at least, never have and find it hard to imagine. That's why I identify as gay, because I have only ever been in love with a man, and as soon as this changes I'll reconsider.

Today (the 11th of October) is National Coming Out Day!!!

It's 2010 and almost 90% of LGBT youth still experience harassment in school, and too many lives have been lost as a result of bullying. Let's all stand up for acceptance and speak out against unkindness.

I didn't realise it was today.. until now (past midnight). While I am by no means a radical activist, I urge you all to do your part to end the pain that homophobia inflicts on millions worldwide.

Happy Coming Out Day!

I wrote a bit on my facebook about it. Below:

I'm not sure I was ever "in", but here's the scoop on me - first, I'm not interested in self-identifying with labels, I don't mind if I never get a letter describing my preferences and personality added to the LGBT acronym and I'm not inter...ested in rallying under a one-word banner to act as a nametag for me in the public world.

Thing is I'm not interested in any act of sexual gratification with another person. I have no desire to 'make sex' with anyone, anywhere, for any reason - even "middle-school stuff" that doesn't even qualify in most peoples' minds as sex, I am not interested in. My sexuality is mine, and I feel no need to share it any more than I feel the need to share my digestive process. I've been amorously interested in both men and women in the past, but sex with my body and theirs never entered into it.

While I'm hesitant to say I'm "marginalized" for being this way, because I don't want to steal a term from people who actually are being oppressed by power structures, I have felt great pain over many years under the pressure from what can seem like the entire world in unison wondering what on earth is wrong with me - why am I not agonizing over the pursuit of another human's genitals like they are. I've even felt the burn from my LGBT friends over it. Sometimes you really do feel like the only one in the world who doesn't care for the pursuit of sex. You get called a liar, a faker - told by others that you are just making shit up because you can't get laid, or that you have no balls, or are a loser. The sexual frustrations of the rest of the world make you their target.

It's those feelings of aloneness and of "being wrong" or "being broken" that drive me to relate and sympathize with my LGBT friends - a shared experience of your world that surrounds you, collectively singing a chorus of "UR DOING IT WRONG". Well if my word is good for anything today, take this away from what I've said - UR DOING IT RITE. Be what you have to be to fulfill your happiness. I was miserable every moment I labored under the illusion that I wanted the same things as everyone around me, and it was a blissful relief when I finally just admitted to myself "I...really don't care about sex. Take that, beer advertisements." I hope a lot of people all around the world today feel that same feeling.

Other than that, I find the male body totally disgusting (even my own). I can't even watch porn if there's a man involved. Just lesbian action for me
lesbian porn is where its at

Yeh I'm just sort of disinterested. I never chase one night stands. They wind up making me feel like shit. But, at the same time I can't ever see myself getting married either. I guess that might change later in life, but for now I'm not interested in anything really.

Really great speech by Joel Burns. If I had heard this at age 12, it would have resonated for me.

Yeah that was heavy going like, but I really love this guy for saying it like it is.

That's awesome man, fight the power! I didn't sleep with a girl until I was 21 (and a half!) but you know, I would have lost it when I was 16 if I could have!

I know, me too - I have never been a crazy activist type, but I feel so for these kids who have nowhere to turn. It gives me hope seeing stuff like this.

If my memory serves me correctly, as an adult, I've only ever cried at my Grandad's funeral. And then I watched this. Probably the most inspiring thing I've ever seen. Thanks so much for posting this.

Cool!

In other news, I came out! I mean, most of my close friends and my parents knew, but now I've told everyone (via the magic of facebook). A week ago tonight actually! My family and friends have been really amazing, and I have been feeling a lot more like myself recently (I mean, I've been feeling a lot more comfortable with everything).

My heart goes out to anyone who doesn't get the love and support I have received.
