normally i used the word "hipster" in extremely lighthearted, loose meaning. partially because i've never gotten a straight answer on just /exactly/ what is and is NOT a hipster. everyone has something different to say about it.

for instance, i often say i dress like a hipster or have hipster hair. but i probably don't.

I had to google 'hipster' to find out in wikipedia that besides a sexy cut of female-underwear it is what we around here used to call 'artyfarty'. Artyfarty however refers to being 'difficult' for the sake of being 'difficult'. One related side-topic is the overflow of digital possibilities making it impossible to decide which possibilities are necessary in a creative process where one results in stacking plugins and tracks just because it's possible, or using video-edits just because the technique permits. Art and demonstration where mistaken in times. I think by now that era is history.

BOC his not at all 'artyfarty' imo

Yep. That smacks of someone categorising BoC by how elitist or difficult their music is, rather than by quality. BoC's great talent is in making something unique and subtly complex that is still profoundly tuneful and listenable. It's a potent combination and why we're all still so fascinated by them.
