Erik Satie Appreciation Thread
Yep.
Amazing music. His Gymnopedies and Gnosinnes (don't care about spelling right now) are genius. I know how to play all of them on the piano. The true pioneer of "atmospheric" music. His music + rainy days = I feel great to be alive.

Definitely one of my favourites, the Vienna Art Orchestra did a great take on his music called "The Minimalism of Erik Satie" definitely worth a listen if you like his music.
Sagan: In order to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.
Basinski: I wanted Cascade to become this crystalline organism like a star or a liquid crystal spaceship, a jellyfish traveling through the galaxy…

Gymnopédie No.1 is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed. Ever. I just started taking piano and music theory classes a few months ago.
I printed out the sheet music to "Gymnopédie No.1" and it is my complete motivation to flawlessly play that piece one day. Extremely moving. I first heard it on the Faithless & Dido track "Postcards" and have been in love with Erik ever since.

That is definately on my list of things to learn on the piano. Studies make it evident that a trance can't be avoided when performing it. God, what motherflippin genius. Also, it's a rainy day here in Hillbillyville, Indiana. Time for some Gymnopedie.why wrote:I once sat in on a couple hours of a performance of Vexations. completely changed my life.
