Yup. It's really terrible. Effectively it's an entirely different band, with a different singer. I don't think their sound really clicked until the 'Strawberry Wine' single.

Yes they are as good! Try "Isn't Anything", "Tremolo", "Glider", "You Made Me Realise", "Feed Me With Your Kiss", "Ecstacy and Whine". All great albums.

Come off it. It's a terrible record! There's no shame in having an inauspicious start to a recording career. I don't much care for Sonic Youth's debut either. Even in interview the band have said that they didn't really hit their stride until Strawberry Wine and particularly You Made me Realise. They'll always have my respect for improving by several orders of magnitude from that first album.

Sometimes age matters, i don't know that many youngsters who really listen to music like i do.

Instrumental A is far more conventional - pretty much in the style of the 'Isn't Anything', particularly 'Feed Me With Your Kiss'. There's a track that appeared on a flexidisc called 'Sugar' that's ace though. Well worth tracking down.

agreed with ianredpoint, instrumental A is muchos differnet from b. There is not many songs by MBV that go with instrumental B, its one in its own. although you guys could check out the 4 songs kevin shields did for the 'Lost in translation' soundtrack...you would probably enjoy them!

ps, comeon guys let not fight about first records...i bought 'this is your bloody valentine' on cd for 30 bucks and i personally enjoy it...plus sonic youth is great...and julie and candy oh man

The soundtrack from "Lost In Translation" is great, not only the Kevin Shields tracks.
