How the fuck do you say something like this? How is this allowed?! There is nothing going on in this argument beyond religious babbling and false propaganda regarding health benefits/domestic violence (HUH?) according to CNN. This is extremely disheartening to me.
People say it because the voiceboxes of idiots still work. That's really all there is to it.

It's astonishing how fucked up the situation is in this country. I mean, I think most people are aware of it, but not everyone sees how truly staggering it is until shit like that gets said.

If someone believes that the voting beliefs of a group of adults should be respected, that's fine. It is true, they do have the right to vote in an amendment. However, if the group of adults consisting of gay/bisexual people who broadly are asking for the right to marry a person of the same sex (which I'm sure aside from the small population of just anti-marriage period people, is virtually ALL of them) then you simply are anti-gay/bisexual by effect of your decision. It doesn't matter what reasoning you use to back it up.

So, I think these religious asshats should probably just flat out admit "Yes, we are anti-gay equality" and go with it honestly, or just shut their fucking mouths, period.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

Haha... gay marriage going against God's design... I'm pretty sure marriage is a man made affair. I don't see other animals doing it.

I hate to say it but I think we're evolving past the concept of marriage altogether. Much like religion, it's clouded with bullshit. Most people only do it for the financial benefits or the fear of their God condemning them to hell for bringing children into the world out of wedlock... the little bastards. But seriously, if those are the only reasons people are getting married in the first place, they shouldn't be bringing more mouths into this world to begin with. On top of that, it's easier now to get divorced than it is to get married. It's a concept we're evolving past. A mere thought form. That's not to say people who can make it work don't deserve respect, because they do. Gay or straight. It's just it won't be as important in the future. It's been cheapened beyond all recognition.

It got voted in by 60 percent.

Seriously? This is disgustingly stupid. These shitheads with their nonsense, they seem to want to waste every last breath they have making sure that "marriage is sacred between a man and a women". It's all over the country and it's remarkable. I mean, it shows you just how low the average American really is how small a percentage of states have legalized gay marriage. The fact that with how fucked up the country is right now, people would rather spend time being concerned over bullshit that DOESN'T EFFECT THEM AT ALL is absurd.
Actually its been banned all along. The amendment will affect things beyond gay marriage as well that I'm sure you probably have read about.

You know where they usually send you to vote here? In a fucking shit stain of a church. Hows that for your politics?

I walked in and they first of all ask what I'm voting for and start to preach about why I should change my vote. (voted against) Then when it was clear I'm not changing my mind they said they would "pray for me". lol?

Then, my ballot did not even have amendment 1 on it and I had to get a new one. I was given a ballot for a person aged 17 that will turn 18 by novembers election (I'm 27). There were things a person in that age bracket (turning 18 in time for november elections) could still vote for now. I want to chalk it up to stupid error but I haven't been feeling that optimistic about christians lately (or ever, really) so, I feel it was rigged. Now imagine how many people did not catch this...

Some reasons why this was passed:
-Not many young people go out and vote. People that would have opposed it. The apathy in people my age and younger absolutely disgusts me. This is a perfect example of how apathy is harmful.
-Conversely, every old retired person here goes to vote. They were raised differently and have different beliefs and are motivated to stand for them regardless of how ass backwards they are.
-Ballots without A1 on them were passed out.
-Churches rounding up potential voters and brainwashing them to vote for A1 offering some sort of reward.
-The vast majority of people living outside our main cities are (not even exaggerating guys) inbred*, ignorant, homophobic, bible says this/that, rednecks.

*If you don't believe the inbred comment then check this out. It's legal here to marry your first cousin. And it happens too.

On one hand I am severely disappointed. My current gf is bi and is absolutely furious.

On the other hand I think 40% is not bad. Even 5 years ago without facebook being as popular as it is now I doubt that number could have even made 30%. I highly doubt A1 will stick around for long. And I imagine most future elections will go over better as the older generation finally dies out and more younger people want to vote.

Also for those not familiar with all the counties here, the only counties that were completely against it were ones that have a massive population of college students. Basically where all of our well regarded universities are located (UNC, Duke, NC State, UNCA, Appalachian [go app!]).

Well, banned or not as in legally being allowed to marry is not quite my point, but going to the lengths to define marriage as between a man and a woman in your state constitution at THIS POINT IN TIME is just as bit ridiculous to begin with.

I totally agree on the young people voting thing...and it doesn't help either that a lot of the people who DO vote are elderly and all too conservative with the past.

And, voting in a church? Now....that's just wrong.

Prime example of the fallacy of church being separate from state.

Funny how in this case, literally the church is tied to the state.

Nah, they don't actually talk about anything of any importance on television!

I was trying to figure out why the media was ONCE AGAIN trying to get people riled up and push their buttons about issues like gay marriage, when I found exactly what I was looking for.

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/3-big-chinese- ... 00086.html

Yes, that's right! This is the classic art of deflection! The media tells us to look over here... in a place we've looked A THOUSAND TIMES BEFORE! They get us all bickering at each other about the same issues over and over; issues of ethics that are absolutely UNSOLVABLE under our current system of politics and governance. THEN, the Fed (an international bank... NOT PART OF THE U.S. GOVERNMENT) sells off some of our banks and even more of our land to China!

That is how it is done, ladies and gentlemen! Rest assured, the next time we see gay marriage, abortion, which celebrity is fucking which table lamp, or what kind of underwear the president wears make headlines in the media, we will be losing even more of our assets to international interests!

We are all starting to get it aren't we?

It's like putting a pet down, you knew it was going to happen but you're still upset when it happens.

With a little less than two months away from "election", so begins the stubborn party-warfare through the medium of those oft-mentioned hot-button issues that are too difficult to actually solve given our system and current state of affairs.
