Zelda on NES (Good Times)

Post by cubistking1906 »

Earlier today I dug out my old NES from the dark closet abyss and fired up some Zelda II. I remembered I had a file where I had gotten all the way to the final dungeon yet failed to beat it.

So I set to taking care of business and spent a couple hours working through the labyrinth from hell that is the final dungeon in this game, drawing up a map to figure my way through the palace all the way to the last two bosses.

Finally I reached the last boss, Dark Link, and proceeded to have an epic sword fight battle to the death (at least by NES standards), beating him down to finish the game in a moment of nostalgic triumph and glory. It was like I was 8 again. It was awesome to play this game again and so much fun because of the challenge and the necessity of having to draw up a map to get me through it.

Just thought I would post this since many of you might appreciate the nostalgia of exploring such cool things from youth.

Zelda from NES to N64 was basically the best part of my childhood, and I don't think anything can touch the wonder that those games instilled in me.

nice! i recently went through zeldaOoT on my n64, and then tried to start Majora's Mask afterwards, but the entire premise is so confusing to me it's almost unplayable.

I'm a pretty gigantic Zelda nerd, I've played all of the main ones, not counting the cdi games and some other small things. I must say that there's something about playing those games young that sticks with you. For me it was both Ocarina and Majora's Mask, those two games created worlds I'm still in love with today. And Zelda II is pretty badass, I actually liked it more than the first one.
You're gonna carry that weight.

I play Link to the Past on my SNES once a year. I've done so ever since I got the game in the 90s.

There were a couple years where I did it on a pc emulator. But that still counts.

I'm getting pretty big into Zelda lately. My first exposure to Zelda was the Oracles series for Game Boy and those are awesome. Now I'm working my way through Ocarina of Time for the first time. It's very tough. I may take a break and start Link's Awakening, which I found in my brothers old Game Boy games.

After all of that I still have A Link to the Past to play and Majora's Mask

Here's a confession, when I was like 7 i couldn't get past the guards bit on Ocarina of Time and gave up.

Like 12 years later, I did it easily and it was like I had come full circle somehow. Ploughed through that shit. Great game. Gonna try complete it again!

Somehow the games just feel more grand when you are a very young kid and everything seems ridiculously difficult, but not in a stressful way.
