Geogaddi Under-appreciated?

Self-quoting because thinking about it, The Devil Is In The Details is pretty funny when you think about it. Those self-help tapes are usually all floaty and relaxing but they've made one that's as nightmarish and uncomfortable as possible. Instead of whale noises you've got undefined sounds of animals in pain, instead of calm soothing voices you've got chopped up gargling voices, all the synths are off... because the devil's in the details, right?

If ANYTHING is under appreciated it is the Trans-Canada Highway EP. It is their most uplifting EP to date.

I haven't seen many talk about it. I have no idea why.

i think the main reason for the under appreciation of trans canada highway is that its really only 4 tracks, considering that the first track is the single from the campfire headphase, and the last track is a remix not done by BOC. and yes, i understand that "in a beautiful place out in the country" only has 4 tracks, but those 4 tracks seem to give a complete feeling after listening, where as trans canada highway seems more like tracks that were left off the campfire headphase, and then put together to make an EP.

with all that said, trans canada highway is absolutely incredible in my opinion. even though they are short tracks, "heard from the telegraph lines", and "under the coke sign" are two of my absolute favorite BOC tracks. they simply take me to my happy place. the moment i hear the sounds at the beginning of the tracks, i immediately go back in time, and i find myself feeling very sad but uplifted at the same time. i am sorry to go on and on but the feeling these tracks give me is quite indescribable, but amazing.

anyway. is it just me, or does it seem as though this forum gives a lot of hate toward dayvan cowboy? ive just always wondered why people have disliked this track so much.

Well, I think it due to the fact it's their most accessable or commerical sounding track and it's easy for folks to enjoy. It's not a mind fuck like geogaddi.

i was listening to this review.

and i couldnt help but notice that everytime the guy said dayvan cowboy. it sounded a lot more like. "Dave And Cowboy" which made me wonder if this is actually done on purpose with the song title.

there is a fear of clowns called Coulrophobia!
anyways, i think it describes the unsettling fear in geogaddi with the childhood memories and all that.

it's my favourite album by them, in fact its in my top 10 of all albums.
in a way it is their 'first' proper album of new material where nothing has gone before.
everytime i hear it i discover something new.

i have also seen the clown face on the geogaddi cover. not that its intentional, but its there.

the hell interface track soylent night gives off a pretty horrific/scary trip to the circus.

maybe boc are actually sad clowns making music. imagine a couple sad clowns composing corsair.

You know, I actually think Music Has the Right to Children can make you feel more uneasy than Geogaddi. Because maybe Geogaddi sounds pretty otherworldly at times, and maybe the samples themselves say creepy things, but in Music Has the Right to Children there is this connection to things from the past, to half-forgotten TV jingles from your childhood and to the scary feeling of being alone at home when a self-promotion loop pops up on TV because the channel you were watching had technical problems or whatever. I think this is largely absent from Geogaddi, and while it is creepy enough, for me it isn't as manipulative psychologically because it touches things that maybe are more social and less personal.

Besides, as far as uneasy listening goes I think Sixtyten is hard to top... you were talking about humour, and it must take some really dark humour to use that "keep a smiling face" sample on such a dark track and make it sound like a combination of scared children and a saw engine.
