I love when the little piano-ey part in the back of red moss starts playing the same thing as the main line occasionally in the second half of the song. This MAKES the song for me, I love it.

i love the little melody in melissa juice. it just brings up all these feelings of peace and contentment.

1999...my buddy and i hit the import store to get BoC peel session cd.
they only had one...he grabbed it first....and i got music has the right to children. i was kinda choked, cuz all i had heard was the peel sesh version of aquarius. loved that 'i miss you' bit

anyways...i have the music cd...listen and was PISSED. my version of aquarius didnt have that little bit...and i put the cd aside. it was too soft for me. i was all into autechre at the time.

one night sitting in my car waiting for my laundry to finish ...music has the right was on, i was giving it another chance. when there was a little drum hit in pete standing alone that caught my attention. SO subtle...but mega poignant to my ear. the little bit at...2:00 [repeats a couple times through out] i thought that was so SICK. listened to it again...noticed the kicks at the start were like three diff kicks, then the pattern changed at 0:52. i thought to myself...these guys are super meticulous with their arrangements.

of course the breakdown at the end is super sick. i had to learn to play that bit...on SOMETHING.

i was hooked.

i could go on forever with favorite parts in BOC's music

but one of my absolute favorites

is about a minute or two into amo bishop roden, when everything just starts to really thump and come together.

Haha I just noticed the scissors in I Love My New Shears and it's cracking me up. I always thought that was a great title for a song, but that takes it to the next level. I like to imagine they were genuinely enthusiastic about their new shears.

- The intro: if BoC owned a TV station in the 70s or 80s, THIS would be their ident tune.

- The drum track from 1:12 onwards. Right there. Insane.

I will never forget hearing the Peel Session "Aquarius" for the first time- baked, cleaning the family-owned insurance agency (I was the janitor in high school and college) at about 11:30 at night and the "IIIIIIIII miss you"/"IIIIIIIIII'm listening" bit freaked me out, I wasn't sure if the vacuum cleaner had swallowed something unhealthy or not, then I listened again after I had calmed down and that damned voice showed up in ANOTHER part of the song that I hadn't noticed before- had me totally flipping out and I listened to the song another 3 times as I walked home. Still have to think about that and smile to this day, no matter which version I hear- cuz naturally, my subconcious just inserts that voice into the MHTRTC version. And of course, the "Just Fantasize" bit at 5:47, with the little kids laughing right at the end is so fucking sublime.

Also- Kid for Today, from 5:04 to 5:09 (duh)
AND In a Beautiful Place... from 3:52 to 5:57, cuz I used to chronically forget that the song wasn't over yet and just be beside myself with joy that there was like another 2 minutes of laughter and reverb and breathing and life in that track.

This is a good thread, I'm going to peruse a bit more meticulously after I get back from work.

That song gets better the more I listen to it, because I know the melody is going to change and the build up to it just pulls on my heart.

I can't really listen to it in public because sometimes I will unexpectedly burst into sobs out of nowhere. I always wonder where it's coming from. It's one thing to hear a song and cry because it's sad or you associate it with a specific memory, but this is like it stirs up some kind of ancient emotion in me, like every tear I ever held back in my life comes bursting out. It's magical.

Whitewater does it too. Those melody changes are like a key turning a lock in some forgotten door.

I get this true, with the same impactful emotions. It takes a lot to put me in a frame of mind where I'm able to cry, but Tears from the Compound Eye just alludes to such a beautiful concept. I imagine the entire birth of the universe shedding a tear in all dimensions simultaneously, just a totality of emotion expressed in such a dense, complex, and saturated environment, alongside every moment of your life at once; pure bliss, pure nostalgia, anxiety, sadness, everything.

It's prolly the most powerful song I know.

Past 3:10 in Music Is Math, when you can feel it kicking in. It's like a very intense drug experience is suddenly noticed, and coming straight at you. I always imagine such immensely psychedelic imagery pulling me and tearing me apart, absorbing me in every pore of it's 4th dimensional skin... some abstract musical association, it is. Gets me every time, I can't stop thinking about it.

Hopefully this hasn't been mentioned in the previous 7 pages, but ever notice at:
Turquoise Hexagon Sun - 2:02 the BA-DUM BA-DUM BA-DUM fully panned in L/R? Out of phase, like they did for the Soundcloud number clue, or "1969 in the sunshine"… Took many listens to discover that one!

Also

Julie and Candy - 3:08, the stereo-panned click--click-click that just adds an extra dimension to an already rather complex beat.

And

Happy Cycling - 1:32 the pattern that begins with 'wooomp' and ends with a bird (heron?) squawking in tempo. Amazing.

And

Oscar See Through the Red Eye - 3:14, the endless delay on the fast 'clapping' sound… a popular part of the song I see!

During Nlogax, around the 3:07 mark when the vocal samples cut in and you realise that the track has finished morphing into discordant, schizophrenic anarchy with absolutely no intention of returning to the safe normality of its first ninety seconds. Fills me with complete joy.

i agree, the ending of satellite anthem icarus, both forwards and in reverse, are absolutely beautiful.

i know i say this all the time, but i wish i could describe the feelings i have when i hear that part of the song. something tells me that most of you can relate to what im talking about, so i probably dont even have to describe it.

It's a seagull. Speaking of birds, it took me forever to realize the birds are actually in the recording of Rue the Whirl, I just thought it was a weird coincidence that birds always sang when I listened to it. It's cool though because it's not exactly a song where you imagine there to be pretty bird song. It's endearing.
