John Carpenter & BOC

Giorgio by Moroder, i cant grasp how good the track is ( latestDaft Punk Record)

Back to topic:
I think its less that all of them think of carpenter,
its more that he stands as a synonyme for the sifi / horror sound of the 70s/80s.
To some kind like Vangelis ( =O )

As I mentioned in the Stanley Kubrick thread, Carpenter is one of ultra-fave directors. Since I was in my pre-teens I became a fan, and remain one to this day. It's sad that his movies kind of took a turn for the worse in the last decade (Ghosts of Mars, I'm looking at you) and are pretty much non-existent now..I watched The Ward, and while it was a decent film it just didn't have the impact I was hoping for. Both of his Masters of Horror episodes were awesome, worth checking out if you haven't seen them! For me, his 1980's work will remain his "Golden Age"...The Thing, They Live, Prince of Darkness, Escape from NY, Big Trouble in Little China (I love that movie WAYYYY too much lol)..also a huge fan of In the Mouth of Madness, Dark Star and Halloween, obviously..his soundtrack work is wonderful and as much a part of the film as the visual aspect. I keep hoping one day he'll come back and blow our minds again with an original, creative film. Until then?

Carpenter was a great director, but musically speaking I don't think he was that great to be assumed as an "influence". His music was derivative and fairly cheap, that was a poor concept of "synthy darkness" which made sense only as a soundtrack to his movies. I was searching a thread about influence of Boc on TH, specially Fabio Frizzi.
So just wanted to post here the Main title of Zombi 2 by Lucio Fulci (the scene with the shark is amazing!)

Make me think at RFTD (or vice versa)

(Don't know if it has been posted somewhere else, if it's the case, really sorry.)

Cheers for posting this! I loved this film when I was in my teens - caught it late on tv one night and couldn't stop watching it. Had this track stuck in my head for days so had to buy it on VHS

The shark scene is a good one, agreed. And of course, let's not forget the eye and the shard of door....

2.20-2.30 sounds like its straight off the album.
They really did a great job of re-creating the vibes in some of these old horror soundtracks. stunning

I have to say that, not just from this topic but from the site as a whole I've discovered loads of new music, this topic alone, Unit Black Flight and the Beyond the Black Rainbow soundtrack.

Regards to John Carpenter, the Escape from New York soundtrack is a classic, nearly as good as my all time favorite soundtrack by Vangelis, Bladerunner (Esper edition)

Fabio Frizzi is playing London this year, Halloween actually with full live band in of all places, Union Chapel, its the same venue that was used for the Geogaddi playback in UK. maybe the lads might attend! you never know.
