P.S. I also agree that this is one of BoC's best to date, it really is. It might even break my top 5. Incredibly good track and still the standout for me.

I think the 'blowing through a straw' noise is some type of distortion effect, or another type of interference. It sounds familiar, like something that occurs when audio equipment isn't properly plugged in. Maybe that's the idea, that the melody is made up of different types of electronic interference frequencies?

In the context of the album it made me think of hearing the track through speakers which are about to pop. No new technology, just old stuff wearing out ...

Yep the smart money would be on this, it could even chart it's that upbeat & infectious!

I'm not sure if they would, as they've never been interested in all things "dance" previously, but this as a single with a few remixes by suitable underground dance artists would be interesting. Pearson Sound, Martyn, Fourtet, that type of sound.

Their only remixers thusfar were courtesy of downbeat hip-hoppers & hazy indie people, indicative of the times.

My apologies if this has been mentioned previously, but it sounds to me like it's a vocal sample that comes in at around 2:04 and continues into that background synth for a while. It sounds to me like the recording is of what I imagine to be a child, like a little girl, singing 'la la la', but with the 'laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa' extended into this sample. Then, when this layer drops out, a really child-like and playful little melody comes in.... (3:47)

We'll probably see The Black Dog remix on a future EP. Can't wait to hear that!

Yeah I get this, or something similar. I have a kind of convoluted trail of musical breadcrumbs with this track actually, cos I already said at the beginning this track reminds me of Audiotrack 14A ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJwyiJA2qMs ) just redone in a more modern way. And Audiotrack 14A's always reminded me of early/mid Depeche Mode. Well this sampled "laa"ing bit you're talking about (apart from being all over Seven Forty Seven) is kinda similar to what DM did a lot, but particularly on Songs of Faith and Devotion, (Higher Love https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sG0-mrYG4uE is a good example).

So I was thinking it was a similar thing, maybe a man's voice turned into a pad, but it could just as easily be a girl's voice. It's brilliant anyway, the whole track. My favourite BoC tracks seem to be the ones that start as one thing but turn into something else.

I dunno if it's a good thing though! It took a year for MHTRTC to properly hit me, and great music's so rarely instant..

Yeah I thought of that.

I'd dismissed it as it sounded a bit odd them saying that before Tomorrow's Harvest was even announced. Was there any further discussion on it?

They wouldn't be my number 1 choice of remixer, but a moody Bergahin techno take on something off the album would be interesting.

New Seeds seems to be getting as much airplay as RFTD this week. Most recent case in point, Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music just this morning. I LOVE hearing it on the radio.

This is seriously turning into one of my early favorites off the new record.

Also, maybe I'm way off base, but the first time I heard it I was for some reason reminded of another rather well known Scottish band known for somewhat spacey instrumentals and masterful use of dynamics.

Mogwai, anyone?

(I could totally see them doing a cover of this live- the instrumentation is right in their wheelhouse)

if anyone is remixing boards of canada on an actual ep they have a lot to live to up... Odd Nosdam's Dayvan Cowboy was something special... so much space. They should just get Odd Nosdam to remix the track for the ep.

i love how the cosecha transmission swells up at the end... and of course the constant staccato groove of what ever that thing is... works amazingly to keep it going from beginning to end.

do you know the sound when neon lights turn on that clinging sound...to me the sound sounds exaclty the same...I used to have a neon light in my room and everytime I heard that sound in new seeds I thought my lamp was f'd up

Love the track but what has me slightly disturbed is the Cosecha transmission tucked in there at the end...

Cosecha meaning harvest right? As in - even these New Seeds will be harvested in time, and will also Come To Dust. No hope, only cycles in time.
