Favorite WTF? Track..

Probably One Very Important Thought. My friend turned their head toward me and just had this "wtf...man" expression on their face. I love it though, the music and the vocal sample.

For me it's Dandelion. I was playing it and my friend picked up on the voice and said "what the hell is Leslie Nielson doing talking about scuba diving over this backwards crap?" I was impressed with his skill in identifying the voice, but had no answers...as has been said earlier, if you don't get it you really just don't get it.

in my line of work we actually do expeditions to Seamounts (not too far from Monterey is the Davidson Seamount) ... so our head Ph.D. who works extensively on Seamount research, nearly shit when i played him 'Dandelion' as his intro to BOC. the rest is history.

and who doesn't love Leslie Nielson?

you're a scuba diver? i listen to a lot of Jerry Garcia and hearing him talk about scuba diving what it means to mean has made me want to learn and certified. living around Monterey county must be sensational. still need to listen to BOC in Big Sur.

yes i am (i do underwater video for the Marine Sanctuary program) and you are correct about Monterey. the cold water here brings a great diversity of life - from Humpback Whales to Nudibranchs. diving allows me to escape this world and its really like the best trip ever - strange colors and lifeforms.

i think everyone should dive at least once ... a lot of the WTF BOC songs begin to make sense once i am on the ocean floor or floating in the kelp forests.

Oh my gosh, I love nudibranchs! I'd also lose my shit if I saw a whale, they're so beautiful. I've never been diving, I really want to do it in Puget sound. There are some cool lifeforms down there.

I'm a big fan of Sir Prancelot Brainfire. Pretty sure I said "wtf?" the first time I heard it. It's so awesome though, everything about it is perfect.

i can honestly say BOC got me this job and now our national director is a BOC fan.

cut to the day i was out here in the bay and a Humpback rolled over belly up and lifted our inflatable up then gently set it down and played keep away from the other humpback it was with (like a dog might taunt another with a toy). you don't have to believe me but it happened. one of those great life moments.

Rainier - thats an appropriate response. once they were breaching not 20 feet from our boats and my mind nearly exploded.

I was listening to Geogaddi in my car today and when I cranked up after work Gyroscope was just beginning.. I spiraling down the parking garage with my windows opened and was just imagining what people were thinking of the music I was listening to.. As all of you may know Gyroscope is nuts but it's so effing good. I was wondering what are some of your favorite tracks that you would never use to introduce someone to BoC because you know they would be like "what the f**k??"

And I'm talking about the "real" tracks. Nothing like A is to B.. or Niagara.. stuff that obviously only we can appreciate.

no boc tracks stand out to me in the way you describe. i don't know what you mean by "real" tracks. boc's music is so stunning and immediate that i can't think of a single track that would alienate all but the most die-hard boc fans. everyone i have introduced boc to have loved them: young people to middle-aged people, classic rock aficionados to pop lovers—everyone

as far as boc's less immediate tracks from their six most recent studio albums go, i have found th to have the most. th has a lot of tracks that make much more sense as part of the whole than as standalone tracks and may be perceived as boring in and of themselves—especially if altogether divorced from their context (e.g., the album they're on, the rest of boc's discography, their musical lineage, etc.). for instance, the concept and themes of th would be fractured without "white cyclosa," but it might be hard for the first-time listener to appreciate its power, beauty, and significance because they would not know its context and may focus on the repetitive nature of the main synth melody. also, cyclosa's beauty is in its nuances, which, for first-time boc listeners, would likely be ignored or not become apparent unless given many listens and a lot of attention

btw, anyone else hear the boc tracks in top gear's chernobyl episode? they played "new seeds" and "gemini"

ive always wondered if the sound in "you could feel the sky" is actually one of them farting into a microphone and slowing it down. i know that sounds horrible, but give it a listen and you guys will agree.
