Haha, I have just read this whole thread, as I missed it before as I'm not on here much. Is this what happened after I mentioned overlaying tracks? amazing work guys.

For the uninitiated, magic window is a silent track. ref

So yeah, if you do wave cancellation as explained above, you will get full silence.

More like, people think it's full of easter eggs ;)
Just because you can rearrange and layer/reverse things and get something sounding semi-decent, doesn't mean that it was all intentional lol.

Sometimes people just read too much into it, as they have said before.

So hows about just listening to the album as it was given ;) With the abrupt endings that they said they made on purpose....

I think you guys are being very creative, but chasing nothing. The brothers haven't said tracks are meant to be mixed together, reversed or listened to in a different order. You are congratulating each other like you've solved an actual mystery.
They said that Come to Dust is a reprise of Rtfd, and everyone assumes every track is paired to another. Just enjoy the album as it is.

Me too.

And toying with it *is* fun. Although I am inclined to believe that there aren't any audial easter eggs to be found this way.

Btw I discovered that following the procedure I gave earlier in this thread, the Incredible String Band's Waltz of the New Moon bears a very strong resemblance to, again, Magic Window ;)

Wow, I don't think that I am "on to something" here, but I just found that the alternate track order 'first the odds, then the evens' (01 - 03 - 05 - 07 - 09 -11 - 13 - 15 -17 - 02 - 04 - 06 - 08 - 10 - 12 - 14 - 16) sounds really great, and many bridges would easily make excellent seemless transitions!

Why did I even bother to check it out? Well, I still haven't reconciled with the fact that White Cyclosa does *not* immediately come after Gemini (which it did on my copy of the llive transmission) while it does sound so perfectly fitting there! I didn't even realize a new song was beginning there, until I got the official release and noticed something was different.

After listening to this enough, I'm pretty sure the order is supposed to be:

* 1, 17, 16, 2, 3, 15, 14, 4, 5, 13, 12, 6, 7, 11, 10, 8, 9 *

It's like the palindrome format, only switched every other pair.

Having Sick times as the second to last makes sense to me, with the end part of the track transitioning to Collapse, true beauty for en end experience.

But for me the best order is:

I think the fact that everyone is suggesting their own preferred track order says it all... there is no super secret special track listing waiting to be discovered. Which is fine, but, yeah, I'm with Starblazer.

I think the main basis for twin tracks which Boards alluded to has already been suggested, in that Collapse is the counterpoint for the two halves of the album which tell of different 'narratives', both reaching the same conclusion. The track listing that people hear is the track listing which I assume the Sandison brothers carefully selected. It doesn't make sense that they'd have chosen a purposefully inferior tracklist for the purposes of a top-secret fan treat. Or does it...?
