bocwiki... bocwikians required.

Post by kaini »

fredd-e and moebius have done a tremendous amount of work on the wiki section of narfum; i've added a bit tonight, navbars and infoboxes and stuff...

errm i guess this post is a recruitment drive. i'm fairly sure that a lot of posters here have a fairly in-depth knowledge of the releases. have a look at http://fredd-e.narfum.org/wiki/Template:Nav-Releases - all the red links are articles that need writing. have a look at catalog 3... the infobox needs filling in.

wikis are great cos anyone can edit them. so get stuck in adding that stuf :D

Are you requesting info SOLELY on the items in red or can we add to any of the pages? I only ask because I thought about adding some material about Geogaddi references and such... I know they are freely editable, but as this project is not my brain child, I thought I'd ask.

And the English major inside me wants to tweak the IBPOITC description a bit.

Is that cool?

oh, absolutely anything! the only guideline i would recommend observing is separating speculation into a ==Theories== section, or something.

not my brainchild either, but i just jumped on board(s) - i edit a lot on lostpedia, and a little on wiki.

Ok. Well, I significantly revamped the article on IBPOITC. http://fredd-e.narfum.org/wiki/In_a_Bea ... he_Country

Please give me feedback and let me know if that's the kind of stuff you want and if there's any changes or information missing.

For all my computer experience, I couldn't figure out how to add any images to the page, but I'd like to if someone knows how.

Anyways, let me know what ya'll think. Like.. if it sucks or something.

Thanks a lot thedisavowed for wanting to become one of the active editors on my wiki! The more, the merrier!

Feel free to edit any page you like; that's why we have this wiki! 8)

PS: if you see some bad English, feel free to rewrite it into proper English :)

And you've done a great job so far!

Thanks!

Ah... I see from the 'Bunker' page that Fredd-E is well aware of this problem. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

No problem. I think I want to try maybe Twoism or something small next. Geogaddi will be a beast of an article if it is done well. (But it will need pictures for sure!)

EVERYBODY ON THIS FORUM (even if you're not actively editing stuff) should check these pages and see if they have anything to contribute. I know a lot about BoC, but I know that you guys know things that I've never heard of or forgotten, so plz bring them up on the forum (or edit them directly) and we'll try to get these pages to be as comprehensive as possible.

When our powers combine....

Image uploading won't be possible on this wiki because of the safety settings on the PHP install on my webserver.

You can however link to external images as mentioned at The Bunker page.

BTW, Kaini, glad to have you on the team as well; you've already done lots of work! Highly appreciated!

Thanks

I would be willing to host images on my Flickr page if necessary. Let me know.

In the mean time, how do I link to images? I'd like to put a picture of IBPOITC cover art on the article I put together.

All your questions are answered here in the reply I made about imageshack and the example (edit that page to see how I made the picture show).

Yeah, I was replying to the comment in the bunker page about central hosting of the images. I've got places I can link to, no problem.

I'll check out that page in more detail this morning. It was late last night . :D

Kaini, the infoboxes look ACE! Very cool.

Glad to have you aboard, disavowed. Looks good. I noticed though you didn't use wikilinks to other pages, just full URLs. You can link directly to another page on the wiki by just doing [[page name]], it's easier and it makes it possible to track the connections between pages.

Also you can make a interwiki link to a Wikipedia article like this: [[wikipedia:Boards of Canada|]]

Wikipedia has a good tutorial if you're not highly familiar with editting wikis, it's pretty generally and most of it applies to the BoC wiki as well.

Ok, I'll edit those interal links.

Yeah, if you guys see technical problems with what I'm doing be sure and let me know. I'm learning as I go. Never done this before. But, it's been kind of fun. :D

Yeah, I was doing it just now. But I think you beat me to it.

Edit: I just got an image up on the IBPOITC page. Let me know if it needs to be done differently or scaled or anything like that.

Like what I said before, I would like it if there wasnt tons of spam on the pages and people deleting stuff.

I would like it if you have to sign up or something to post and you have to type in one of those picture codes to prevent spambots... Or just have certain people posting... or have someone approve of the post/edit before it is on the website.

Welcome to last year?

This is a brand new wiki installation since a couple of weeks.

It's spam-free; you need to register before you can edit posts. It got spamfilter extensions enabled.

It's fsckin' ace now 8)
