But yet they will report on anything he does. I don't understand why they (or any music news site) report on music they obviously don't like. I really hate Pitchfork. I think their mediocre review of TCH biased a lot of people toward that album. They seem to have the power to make or break a band. I stopped visiting them along time ago. Glad to see I'm not missing anything.

Just finished my first listen of Morning Phase.

I'm not exactly floored by any means, but I'm also certainly not disappointed. Definitely worth the purchase. It'll probably grow on me with more listens.

Anyone else feel like Sea Change just had more like.. Chutzpah behind it?

EDIT: Hold up, did I hear some faint brass right there at 2:27 on Waking Light?

love the live sounding but cleverly layered production on this...keep hearing a bit more each time,waking light and don,t let it go my faves at the mo

Haha good point! I didn't even know about that. But, as it stands, I have the (apparently 'less-vinyl-y') MP3 on top of the actual LP, so I don't think I'd be missing out on too much. :)

Beck is probably the artist whose collection of music I have is the largest.

Word. Always appreciated him, but since I started getting his stuff.. Gotten like 6 albums in the past couple of months. Last (and only other time) I did that was for BoC.

Have you checked out any of his early tapes that he used to hand out at his shows?

Jack Ass and Sweet Sunshine are his best tracks,

As much as I love Sea Change and his newer stuff, Nick Drake kinda did that about 30 years ago.

I have, but not in depth. Has 'Golden Feelings' ever been officially released? I snagged a torrent with his early stuff on mp3 a long time ago, but it was clearly a low quality rip from cassette. I'd love to find a lossless copy.

Supposedly a remaster was done in 99 by the label without permission from Beck. As a result, only about 2000 copies were ever pressed on CD.

That's a near-perfect description. The album itself is probably the one vinyl I want to own before I die, especially the version that was printed om gold translucent wax.

mellow gold is such a brilliant album, defiantly his best, I bought on a whim years ago when it was first released and was pretty much stunned at the succession of brilliant tunes, I wasn't really expecting much tbh, remember it was back in the days where there was no internet so it was a blind listen.

I love odelay too from pretty much beginning to end, but after that I think the magic was fading for me, mutations was okay (nobody's fault but my own, wow) and midnight vultures was at the time classed as the worst album I'd ever heard by an artist I had love for lol. I think I used the cd case as a beermat.

his stuff nowadays is okay though and worth a listen, Sea Change is a great album but I can't say I rush home and punch the air and think 'I must play Sea Change!!!' :D
