The two bands I've noticed that have a surprisingly large proportion of fans on this board are MBV and Radiohead, and I find it strange that there should be such a crossover between fans of those two bands and fans of BoC considering how different and unrelated their music is. (There's also David Bowie, but he's about as popular everywhere else so it isn't unusual.) I know Thom Yorke is a fan of Warp stuff, but I didn't remember him being as popular and respected on WATMM as he is here.

Rather then being musically similar, I think what the bands have most in common for me is being able to combine the weird, left-field and interesting with really listenable musicality and emotion.

The theories about the Daydreaming video are very awesome to read as well. Apparently he walks through 23 doors, he was 23 years with his so before he lost his so. And in the end he sings in reverse and speed up, half of my live. He was apparently 46 when he lost her. I haven't fact checked this and its not completely sure. But the video seems like theres a lot of hidden meaning/emotion.

This is the answer that makes the most sense to me. Neither BoC nor Radiohead ever go full weird, but they certainly take influence from weird and implement it in a more conventional way. Not that many artists in the mainstream do that, so Radiohead and BoC are probably the most popular.

the sound at the end of daydreaming, the way thoms voice is being manipulated, is something that was used years ago on the mars volta song, the widow. when i first heard daydreaming i couldnt believe how similar the end was to the end of the mars volta song.

Agreed. I've been a fan of both for many years and always felt they share a sense of what I would call 'otherness' - a kind of compulsion to explore musical constructs and atmospheres very few artists can pull off.
Absolutely besotted with AMSP (currently on 6th listen), it's so incredibly rich especially when compared with TKOL. I didn't hate that album but I hated the fact that I didn't love it. This I adore

Yeah. It's the one song on the album that's not quite hitting the spot for me. Perhaps it's just a little too derivative?

The opening triptych of Burn The Witch, Daydreaming and Decks Dark is simply astounding.

Excellent stuff, really one of their best. You can tell Jonny had a big part in the making of this record, which is probably why I enjoy it so much. He always embellishes their compositions so well. I always think 'How to Disappear Completely' would be pretty pedestrian without that lurching dissonance in the background coming from Jonny's Ondes Martenot, it's a very simple musical addition, but takes the song from a simple acoustic confessional into something far more strange and disquieting. This new album is a grower for sure, like much of their later work. My only gripe is that 'Big Boots' and 'Lift' have again been left aside, though if they were on this album they'd likely be completely different to the versions I have grown to love. 'Lift' is definitely very much old Radiohead, but Big Boots could work for contemporary Radiohead in it's original form. They're both likely lost to the ages..

2 additional tracks coming out with the special edition in September- so there's still a chance! But yeah, if either one was to be included, I can only imagine the form it would take. I think Big Boots interests me more, though Lift would probably have the most change, which would be cool to hear, could either get more beautiful, or take a more somber tone as TLW did.

NP mate. Yeah I guess if it's '96 it sits somewhere between the recording of The Bends and OK Computer, it would fit better on The Bends and you could probably sacrifice one of the tracks on that album for it. Black Star, whilst great, sounds a bit dated these days.. I'd put Lift on in place of that. Big Boots still sounds incredible to this day, I always thought this would be their Bond track and not the Spectre effort.

That's version off Meeting People Is Easy. The best version in my opinion. Colder, darker. Other versions sound more like a straightforward rock tune. The lyrics are lovely too.
