Day For Night (aphex in Houston), anyone going?

Post by everythingyoudoisorange »

absolutely mind blown by this music festival by Houston Free Press that slipped passed my radar. But tickets were still on sale, a 2 day, and for a reasonable $180 shipped. Love it.

http://www.dayfornight.io/lineup/

in Houston, TX December 17 and 18th

and this fun election driven ad:

Minus the obvious omission, this is like an IDM/EDM/chillers Woodstock.

TOBACCO!!!!!
SURVIVE
Bjork
Squarepusher
Clams Casino
Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Clams Casino
..prolly others I've skipped passed, but those are top of mind ones

Thoroughly impressed, going by myself, just curious if any boc'ers wanna meet maybe. Could be fun,

we could all just go all fidelio-anonymous to the stomp grounds of good music too:

Either way, i want to discuss Aphex and Day for Night.

Bought tickets the day that Aphex was announced--so extremely stoked! My girlfriend and I are excited to meet up with y'all here and there, we American BoCsters can sometimes be a rare breed, eh?

Also maybe we can convince Tobacco to play a cover of a song from Start A People ; )

I know there's already a massive squad of WATMMers showing up to get down, perhaps Goiter Sanchez is our connection to some extended IDM family.

I will be wearing the 'Quite Good' white tee. Will let you all know if there is some aggregate meeting planned. I have always had overwhelmingly positive experiences meeting people IRL who post on IDM forums!
The most interesting people I have gotten to know, seriously!

Yup, this song will always mean a lot to me : )
Tom Fec (aka Tobacco/bmsr) released a whole bunch of seriously transcendental songs before Dandelion Gum even hit the scene. Hazy Field People, Smile Heavy, I think it is beautiful that you are 256 colors, and Dandelion Graves all touch upon a naive sort of existential energy that hit me super hard in highschool and still does today. Like all the best electronic music, it manages to evoke some of the most reverent images of what nature's really all be about--the passage of time which is inconceivable to us humans (and humanities' hopeful yet impossible will to truly be apart of it).

Anyway, if y'all haven't already done so, go listen to all of BMSR's back catalog so that I'm not the only superfan at the gig ; )

Yes, I am super stoked to hopefully get to meet a bunch of y'all! I'll be wearing a third-party ripoff BoC tshirt probably. Hopefully we can organize some meets here and there outside of the festival itself, there's gotta be somewhere decent to hang in Houston (I'm imagining something along the lines of a parking lot as being the most peaceful zone). If only the festival was in Austin there'd be all sorts of nature nearby...

Rothko Chapel is a must! Rudyard's is a great pub spot in the Montrose area.

I will be there! Flying in from Kansas City. Would love to meet any of you, look for my face and say hi if you see me!! Photo for reference- I promise I'm a lot happier and friendlier than I look in this photo. :P

I read that RDJ was playing his first show in 8 years in the US and flipped my shit and my boyfriend immediately surprised me with tickets. The rest of the lineup is obviously amazing (John Carpenter?!?! Pretty peeved that his set conflicts with RDJ) but all I can think about is how good it'll feel to be in the same room with my favorite artist (next to BoC).

P.S. I've been a low-key member for probably 7 years but I've gone through various accounts (always forgetting my damn password and losing access to old emails), my most recent and commonly used name being uf0party.

I am devastated I cannot go something came up.

Cancelled Airbnb and selling my wristband for a loss locally but want it off my hands before I go on holiday travels in less than a week

Listening to SoundCloud dumps to cope. Richard better put up a soundboard rip or someone do some'n I'll live off the YouTube clips.

Of course I would have to miss the best festival in modern days/2016. Oh well life goes on

At least it's not boc. But still... argh

If any of you are coming into town be prepared for bad weather coming in on Saturday; day will start off nice but get cold and wet, so bring your wellies!

Also there's some after party going down with Richard Devine and others in a VERY sketchy part of town tho...!

Hello everyone!! Nicole and I have just made it to our zone in houston, and we're down to meet up with anyone who wants to hang! The first thing we'll be seeing is Tobacco at 4:15, so I suppose we're just gonna fuel up here for a second and then head over and chill. Here's a picture of us at a bookstore in Austin yesterday : )
