I take it we’re still pretending that 2014 happened spontaneously, without any external guidance or encouragement. After that, Ukraine was, quite helpfully, supplied with enough weaponry to continue fighting Russia until the last Ukrainian standing.
Of course, we shouldn’t “play dumb” about any of this. That would be awkward.
Still, it’s reassuring that there remains just enough restraint not to push the situation into an even wider catastrophe. For that, some appreciation toward President Donald Trump might be in order.
And as for the moral instruction about “right and wrong,” it’s difficult not to admire the confidence with which it’s delivered by a country whose global footprint has, for decades, been written largely in blood.
