all right. either I got my tunes mixed up and haven't re-heard it yet, or my only explanation for myself is that i was pretty stoned on the beach. apologies! til next time...Waterbagel wrote:Y'ALL!!! it's the chord progression from 5.9.78!!! that's the R35TT/AFOT vibe that you may be picking up on!! at least, the intervals between those bass notes are the same as 5.9.78. I got SO excited when I realized it

A car breaking hard / tire screeching at 1:32-ish, and then the sound of an impact beginning at ~1:41.lyingtransferred wrote:Anyone made out the full sound heard in the background starting at 1:32? Can hear a faint high pitched shrieks, with some associated deeper “slamming” or “closing” sounds.

As this one is gradually stripped down to just the beats and the beats get more robotic, it gave me the feeling of watching the light of a ghost's body partially dissolving and revealing a mechanical skeleton underneath. Very cool track, love the nod to Autechre.
Very fitting given that BOC's early breakout into releasing things publicly began on the Autechre label, SKAM. The nods and the thank yous and the tributes really reinforce in me the feeling that this is it for new BOC music; they've completed what they set out to do with this one!

Had the same thought cross my mind upon first listen of this one. Certainly some Cocteau Twins vibes.IanRedpoint wrote:Almost exactly what my mate Andrew and I said as we did synchronised first listens on Friday!Seat of Consciousness wrote:Cocteau Twins influence on full display here. This as well. There a few moments on this album that feel like they dug up some bones of tracks from OT or R35TT.mechanismj wrote:Y'all nailed it. Sounds like it could have been on R35TT.
So cool. This is certainly one of my favorite sub 3 minute/interlude type tracks of theirs.

This is the track on the album that's lingered in my mind the most surprisingly. I loved it very much when I first heard it, but I didn't expect it to just spontaneously start playing in my head over and over. Then I realized it was mixing with Statue of Liberty in my head. Such a delight the way this one is sticking with me, almost overwhelming and eerie but gorgeous. This album is doing some real magic.Jango9 wrote:landsendroad wrote:Definitely hear Statue of Liberty in there. A bit LynchianAye, so very glad to hear them getting Old Tunesy on this one! This is a bit like if Statue Of Liberty had been on Campfire, I think I even heard them intentionally making it sound like a crappy limewire mp3 at a few points lmfao. Also the washed out guitars remind me of Yo La Tengo which is always a plus. Fucking gorgeous track, wish there was a bit more of it but they can't all be 5 minutes I suppose lmaomechanismj wrote:Y'all nailed it. Sounds like it could have been on R35TT.

Could be. I've noticed the deeper sounds showing up way earlier in the track after more listens.RedMarauder wrote:A car breaking hard / tire screeching at 1:32-ish, and then the sound of an impact beginning at ~1:41.lyingtransferred wrote:Anyone made out the full sound heard in the background starting at 1:32? That is definitely a tyre screech and smash at 1m32s in this song. There's something going on with this whole car crash narrative, the photos of car wrecks on the album cover etc. I think this is more significant than we currently know.

Anyone detect similarities between the progression of "Somewhere Right Now..." & the "Picnic at Hanging Rock" theme?
I know Picnic was cited somewhere as an inspiration for BoC.

These impact and car crash samples intrigue me.

Similar movement, yes. There is an old article where they both shared their top ten favorite movies - Picnic At Hanging Rock was on Mike’s list.paultomba wrote:Anyone detect similarities between the progression of "Somewhere Right Now..." & the "Picnic at Hanging Rock" theme?

Oh yes, I do hear it, that never resolved minor descent, giving a feeling of endless hopelessness.

Nice catch. This has been one of my favorite films since back in my collecting Criterion Collection titles phase c. 2000. It's such a beautiful film visually and musically despite being quasi-horror. The perfect use of the 2nd movement from Beethoven's Emperor Concerto still at the top.paultomba wrote:Anyone detect similarities between the progression of "Somewhere Right Now..." & the "Picnic at Hanging Rock" theme?

This songs finally starting to break through for me. Listening tonight I felt a great sense of comfort from it. I think it’s perfectly placed in the context of the album.

I was revisiting Local58 and the music in this short sounded oddly familiar.

Re: 06. Somewhere Right Now In The Future
The title made me think about times when I was getting high to enjoy TH as much as I could.
And when I way lying in my bed I was thinking how will I perceive right "now now" someday in the future, as I am looking at my past myself getting high to enjoy TH, lying now sober since 1.5 year, enjoying Inferno. This "somewhere right now" will have certainly some space in my future memories, and my goal is to make that space warm.

Re: 06. Somewhere Right Now In The Future
On its own, I can understand how the track sounds unremarkable. But in the context of the album and how it follows up the first 5 tracks, it’s absolutely perfect. It might be the most well placed track in their entire discography. It’s a respite after what came before it, and it especially lands harder because those first 5 tracks were the first 5 new BoC tracks in nearly 1.5 DECADES.
