You Were The Only One Around

Post by Captain Da »

...by Ulrich Schnauss. I thought a few of you here probably knew about 'ol Mr. Schnauss and probably knew about this song. So I figured you may enjoy this:

About a month or two ago, I was at a friends place (getting baked :D) and he said he had something he wanted to show me. When he finially got the TV/DVD player and sound hooked up properly he was ready to press play. What he did was played a DVD of various NFBC films muted, and then ran the music from his winamp playlist from his laptop through the TV. As you may have guessed, some of the music goes really well with these films!

Anyway... the film that was playing was "The Owl who Married A Goose" and the song was "You Were The Only One Around" by Ulrich Schnauss. As the film played I noticed the music went really well with the video. Here's the thing: The previous night he was with more friends (geting baked :D, which I couldn't partake cause I was at work) and they did this same thing but didn't have any order to it. The winamp list was on random while the whole DVD of various short NFBC films played through. When this film started, out of THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of songs on the winamp playlist this song started playing EXSACTLY the moment the film did, and ended at precsisley the same time the film finished. It was friggin' insane... it inspired him to mix the two and upload it to YouTube.

The film is incredible with that song... it goes so well with the visuals it's like it was made to be. It's so very, very sad but beautiful. I know you guys would like it. It was definatley a powerful moment for all of us that we'll never forget.

Kind makes you wonder if there is some kind of cosmic force watching over everything after all... just setting stuff like this up to amuse the hell out of mortals.

The DVD we watched this on originally was a copied one downloaded from the net, but I recently saw a three disc set of NFB films that has this one on it for a meer 20 bucks! I'm going to grab it at work tomorrow.

That was beautiful. All sand art right?

Where is this Schnauss track from? I've never heard it before.

Yeah it's all sand done on a projector screen. And don't ask where it came from... I really don't know. It's just a lone mp3 sitting in out folders seperate from his other albums. I know it was on Tom Middleton's mix record "The Sound Of the Cosmos" but the full, non-fade in version is a mystery to us.

I downloaded a bunch of mr. ulrich's tunes, I hadn't head him before. Cool stuff, not incredibly diverse though. I listened to him while doing a 4 hour logic assignment, and it made the situation much happier.

Amazing; I cannot fathom how sand (of all things) can be animated so beautifully... Nice Ulrich track too!

BUMP

i woke up this morning with a song in my head and i couldn't for the life of me figure out where i heard it or who it was by. for 6 hours it was nagging me, repeating over and over in my head. then it clicked that it had something to do with twoism but i couldn't think why. then i remembered an animation with an owl and a duck in it, used the search function, but initially couldn't find what i was looking for. looked up and down the list a couple of times and saw the title for this thread, and it suddenly clicked that the tune i had stuck in my head all day was by ulrich schnauss! so anyway, i thought i would bump this as i enjoyed this animation the first time around and maybe people who are rather new here may want to see it and hear this schnauss track. 8)

(wow a year exactly since the last post in this thread!)

I'm glad you bumped this cos i didn't get to see it the first time this went around Twoism. very beautiful mixture of animation and music - stirring and, eventually, depressing, as a lot of NFBOC animations tend to be in my opinion.

also one time when my friend and i were hanging out, i forget if we were high or not, but we started singing the lyrics to a song we both knew with no prior planning at the same time, and then at the exact same time, also with no prior planning, we both replaced the same word of the song with a fart - not a fart SOUND, but a genuine fart. it was magical. we still awe over it today.
