What films give you that BOC feeling?

Ya the show is pretty sweet. It's like Twin Peaks on a surf board.
I saw this movie that was called The Electric Grandmother when I was a kid. From What I remember it was pretty Boards like.

No, I can see what you mean. Actually, quite alot of Hitchcock works too. Certain parts of North by Northwest and also (to a lesser degree) this from Spellbound - especially the last part when he is running away from the wings. Looks a little cheesy today, but...

So I picked up Wickerman on Twoism's recommendation.

And I loved it. Absolutely loved it.

Although, I have to say, that part (The Siren's Song chapter) where Britt Ekland is dancing naked trying to seduce the cop had me pretty confused. I wasn't sure whether I should be aroused or just start laughing.

And I started laughing everytime those lyrics came in:

Corn rigs and barley rigs and
Corn rigs are bonnie
I'll not forget that happy night
Among the rigs with Annie

But honestly, it wasn't mocking laughter at all. I think it's all part of the charm of that movie. Its good points and it's goofy ones. I love 70's movies.

Edit: And btw, that film gets the award for the raciest but still tasteful lyrics I have EVER HEARD:

Heigh ho
Who is there?
No one but me my dear.

Say how do the things I'll give to you?

A stroke as gentle as a feather

Simply the greatest British Horror film of all time. As a side-issue, I had the good fortune to see Mark Lanegan and Isobel Campbell live last week. Isobel sang The Siren Song live and it was just electric. Oh and they used the Maypole song from the film as their intro tape too.

I own a great film called "Bangkok Dangerous" from Thailand. VERY BoCish, I'd say. It has a certain subtlety for an action film.

(NOTE: This movie is about a deaf/mute hitman who befriends a pharmacist whilst trying to hide his life from her. They fall in love, but then he kills himself after a mission goes bad.)

Lost In Translation was my first thought, Steve Zissou was already taken

Logan's Run and The Andromeda Strain are all good choices!!

I have a great TV Movie/serial which could fit BoC beautifully!!

2. Children Of The Stones. Okay Boards Of canada fans, this is a very spooky kids drama from the seventies about a village inhabited by eerie stones and a weird cult!! It's got Boards Of Canada written all over it!!

Don't you just love the intro for HTV!! Its a classic

Which scottish TV channel did BoC sample with the intro to Red Moss? Was it Grampian?

3. Apocalypse Now. I dont know why I didn't think of this before!!
4. Forbidden Planet. It's got that retro sci-fi charm!!
5. The Ipcress File. This is virtually a Boards of Canada video!!
6. Close Encounters Of The Third Kind: They virtually play ROYGBIV when the mothership touches down!!

5. Apollo 13: HOW....can you miss the chance to play Aquarius and Turquoise Hexagon Sun!!
6. Alien. I am so tempted to say Blade Runner but it's already got an amazing soundtrack so I'll opt for Alien just for the sequence where the Nostromo lands on the alien planet. Boards Of Canada would be just perfect!!

7. Horizon. Remember the science programme on BBC2? Anyone remember when theyd do a documentary about Skylab in the 70's and theyd
have the Jean Michel Jarre Equinox/Magnetic Fields incidental music. BoC would be perfect!!

8. Outland: I like this film and would be awesome with BoC!!
9. Village Of The Damned: Spooky kids, George Sanders and in black and white!!
10 Space 1999 or UFO, any or both of those Gerry Anderson sci-fi series is both very 70's and has BoC written all over them!!

The comedian Stewart Lee commenting on Children of the stone on youtube is a worth a watch.

I aways thought that about Close Encounters also. surprised it hasn't been mentioned in here yet. It's got a real Boc vibe about it. I've watched it dunno how many times since I was a kid.

Note the Sweet Excorcist sample in there also at the synthesiser scene.

What about The Thing by John Carpenter. Pretty Bocesque in my opinion. Was the music at the stat of the film used on the BoC site?? Sounds like it. I know they've said they're fans of his music.

Yeah, those, totally. Anything with '70s computer technology seems to fit. Alien (during the scenes when 'Mother' awakens the crew onboard the Nostromo) also springs to mind.

I read about an Indian film called Koi... Mil Gaya, partially based on Close Encounters. Apparently in that one when they try to establish contact, they play the aliens Trans-Europe Express!
