What films give you that BOC feeling?

Like mentioned above I remember when I was a small child this movie creeped me out. It's called the Electric Grandmother. Anyway you will see after viewing the clips why its BOC related.

hell yeah! the music playing throughout is so crunchy and filtered down. i love it. especially the music playing when he breaks into the house after thinking he saw bruce dern (who also played freeman lowell in 'silent running') shot dead. interestingly enough, that section of music contains similar sounds to some parts of the incredible string band's 'be glad for the song has no ending' (also recommended viewing for anyone who has not seen it.) like a clay drum with loads of pitch LFO or something.

mike and marcus grew up watching Silent Running and Logan's run frequently.
the fountain, yes very much. thats, visually, one of the most beautiful films ive ever had the pleasure of seeing, next to the final cut of Blade Runner, which, by the way, gave me a very strong early-BoC vibe. also--

I second Pi and the Wicker Man, two of my favorites, as well as kubrick's 2001, and the flight scenes in this movie i just saw at school called "The Right Stuff". kind of random, but a lot of the shots go perfectly with Skyliner. im sure there are more, but, of corse, i cant remember at the moment.

i didnt see the nick cage Wicker Man. i have no intension of doing so either, mostly because the only thing ive ever seen in which he has not gotten on my nerves is Matchstick Men. but come on, the guy changed his last name from coppola to cage after his favorite comic book superhero. you know what his kids name is? kal-el. superman's biological name. poor kid...

I think that's pretty sweet that he changed his last name to match his favorite comic book super hero. Famous people change their names all the time and it's usually not anything that cool. THat being said.. I have never seen Wicker Man.

Thanks for the input in this thread. Today I ordered the Qatsi trilogy and Silent Running. Was going to get Logans Run as I love that film but could only find region 1 dvds. Got Prince Of Darkness also, not that it is BoC in the slightest but another I haven't seen for a few years. So, some great viewing to come through the door soon

For me it would definitely be the Todd Haynes film Safe. This is one of my favourite films. It's about a housewife who begins who suffer strange bouts of illness - but her doctors cannot find anything wrong with her. Soon she starts to believe she has "Twentieth-Century Disease" - i.e. that she's allergic to the chemicals, toxins and pollutants abudent in modern life.

After seeing a piece on television she visits a New Age/religious retreat (in a beautiful place out in the country?) that allegedly offers help to sufferers of 20th-Century Disease.

Throughout the whole film it gave me a very BoCish feeling. I found a great essay about the film, I've quoted a few excerpts, deleting some spoilers

Safe is a masterpiece – if for no other reason than the discomforting feelings of claustrophobia in open space that its imagery so expertly generates. Its visuals have the sterility of Kubrick. They transform familiar suburban and natural landscapes into boxed-in prisons. This complements the story of Carol White (Julianne Moore), a housewife in 1987 California who becomes allergic to her environment. Her disease baffles everyone – her doctors, her husband – and she finally goes to the Wrenwood Center, a New Age health retreat, where she hopes to recover. A childlike viewpoint is evident throughout Safe. Carol’s house is filled with possessions and pictures accumulated over a lifetime that constantly haunt her with history. Haynes pans over a family picture display at one point, and it is frightening to see the change in Carol’s expression from early childhood to early adulthood. The smiles of a toddler Carol are juxtaposed with the blank, passive expression of a high school photo, suggesting that this bird has been trapped for years in a gilded cage, completely unawares. We might call this an illustration of Carol’s loss of innocence, but Haynes doesn’t seem to wholly believe in the innocence of children. Rather, he suggests there are worlds of difference between adult and child – each stage has its own rules of conduct and behavior, and yet it is inevitable that the two sides will confront each other.

This page has some of the images which inspired Todd. Very cool.

The other film that immediately flooded me with "BoCness" is 16 Days of Glory, a feature-length documentary about the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. The images are so dreamy and luscious, particularly the outside diving scenes. It's a gorgeous film.

I've not seen Wicker Man, I'll put it on my do watch list.
