amo bishop roden - that lone synth sounds like a dawn of a new day which is in fact the end of the world...does that make sense? it made sense in my mind...it doesn't make sense does it?

I thought of this thread because I've been going back and listening to one part in one song over and over and remembered this was here... apologies if it's too late for a bump.

4:23 in Skyliner. That sluggish, yet punctuated ride cymbal that pops in after the thousand-snare-drums-falling-down-stairs rush gives me chills every time. I've been going through Trans Canada just to get to this bit.

Man I always find it so amazing to hear the melody in Happy Cycling after that incredibly long build-up. It is like you are going through a swamp, (I always thought of a swamp while listening to this track) and you are suddenly you stumble into some civilization of glowing fairies...

(or I always think of Albert Hoffman on his first accidental acid trip)

Another favorite is the opening bit to Left Side Drive, when you first hear the tambourine samples (at least I think they're tambourines), but it's cut up and re-pasted to make it sound as if someone with bells attached to them is walking with a very odd gait.

Yeah pretty much Happy Cycling is a favorite moment of mine. The way it just keeps building and building...those last minutes are bliss.

I have too many to list, but right now... at 1:30 in Magic Teens.. then again at 2:35.

Listen to it with headphones on, the way the melody bounces back and forth from left to right.. crazy.

It took me a few listens-through to catch that. That's a crazy effect... and it's so deeply layered. It does sound like an amp being quickly shut off, or if they recorded the sound of something being dropped on the floor through a vocoder. I like it, too, now that I've heard it.

Everything in Skimming Stones. I remember when I started trying to download BoC Maxima, and this was the first track I could get. And I remember being completely blown away as soon as I opened it, completely transfixed on the dramatic, sweeping melody and being carried away by it's atmosphere.

It's placement just after Forest Moon/Niagra just doesn't do it justice. It's best listened to underneath the northern lights, after a good hour or so without music.

I reckon it could be percussion on turntables being stopped....

Could be... I'm totally unfamiliar with that sound. I own a turntable, but haven't heard anything like that and don't do anything like mixing or, play around with it enough to recognize that.

The more I hear it, the more I think it could be anything really. It could be a tiny split second cut out from a tire squealing or a record scratch or a laser gun sound effect. It's probably something they spent an entire week on perfecting.

'Slow This Bird Down' at 2:08 when the echoing percussive sound happens in the background. It just brilliantly placed. It's best heard when you listen right from the start to get a nice build up.

Wowwwww... the Sandsings song that BoC remixed has some crazy ass bass at 3:55 when the drumloop cuts out, then the baasssssss, then it cuts back in. I'm diggin' that a looooot.
