i was listening to olson with my cousin once. and he was reminded of a time when we were young. him and i were sitting on a big rock with the rest of my cousins. both of us starting to choke up with tears. it was an intense experience. every time i hear olsen now, i am reminded of a more innocent time in my life. god damn it, i miss being a kid.

Nothing taps into my emotional state like Boards of Canada. There's something unexplainably unreplicable about the music they produce. It's probably why you hear stories of subliminal, cult messages in their music. It's extremely deep, complicated, beautiful and evolves every time you listen to it.

Yesterday I became teary-eyed while listening to the Broken Drum remix. I guess it's just feelings like: this is Board of Canada, this is amazing, this is epic... I like a lot of remixes on that CD, but when BoC comes on it's just on a totally different level. I feel honoured to be able to listen to their music. Definitely happy tears.

A lot of their music has made me teary-eyed for other reasons, usually bitter-sweet melancholy. I think Geogaddi does this more than the others for myself.

i think its amazing that people talk about autechre and aphex as being music that evokes tears. i agree that it is some very emotional music... but most people hate on music like this due to its "lack of emotion." what bollocks that is.

I've listened to BoC for about four months now and began with Geogaddi. Since my first listen through the smallest weird number always struck an oddly deep chord with me. It wasn't until recently when sitting through a listen and the song began to play that I found myself in tears. I'm an emotionally controlled and rational man, I cannot recall the last time I've cried prior to this and most would go as far as to say that I seem rather devoid of emotion so this sudden tearing was far from expected. Something about the track simply tapped something inside of me that brought forth the most alien, un-describable, overwhelming emotions of confusion, loneliness and a bleakness that I cannot compare with anything else I've ever felt in my life. It almost pains me now to listen to the track, whenever I listen through now and I don't realize the song is coming and then I hear it begins I feel a sudden rush of this alien, bleak, confusion/sorrow that frightens me and forces myself to change the track. I think I'd give myself brain damage to listen to the track on my lonesome in the dark now. I cannot explain it any-more then I have and I am not exagerating in the least bit. Anyone else feel similar though I'm sure more mild things when listening to this song?

I have the exact same feeling with this track except even more extreme, not in the sadness part so much, but more in how fundamentally "wrong" it feels, listening to this track. Its sounds satanic to me, not evil, but somehow twisted and rotting. I think of flesh mixed with plants decaying, or watching old film that is half melted. I have come to love this feeling immensely.

Funny enough, what really killed me, this is going to sound nerdy, but the music in the Giygas dimension of Earthbound for snes.........one loop from that repeated in my head for hours and put me into a psychotic state...

Yes, I'd say a lot of Autechre is some of the most emotional music I've heard. I find Nine utterly heartbreaking.

THIS is going to sound nerdy of ME, too...but I don't think any emotional statements applied to Earthbound are silly. Unlike Final Fantasy and all that garbage, Earthbound (unknown to a lot of people, somehow or another) is a very emotional artistic project by Itoi. Yes, it's a product and a game, but Itoi himself is like an emotional astronaut. The man amazes and mystifies me. Earthbound should make anyone with a heart cry.

The song "Smiles and Tears" from EB is -guaranteed- to make me cry.

Earthbound has some weeeird messages going on. its a creepy game. how about the fact that you NEVER see your father? your entire relationship with him is over the phone. he gives you tons of money, but it never seems to matter. there are also other instances of child neglect, children left at home with no parents etc. also, how about the giant red smile plastered over the face of everyone in the game? its very strange, and it seems like a pretty light hearted game until you stop to think about it. too bad mother 3 is only out in japan, ive heard its JUST AS GOOD.
and yeah, the music is so good, when it takes itself seriously at least.

almost everything you have listed is normal in your average modern japanese family, so the game does reflect real life (in japan) more than you would think. my kids only saw me one day a week because of the hours i worked, and as a result, their english has suffered for it. it can be quite difficult to communicate with them nowadays. my japanese isnt good enough to talk about anything meaningful or express myself.
