How do people react when they hear BoC for the first time?

My dad gets nauseous from the detuned/nagging synths in boc's music. Whilst I think it's soothing.

My mum thought Roygbiv and Aquarius were awesome.

She also loved some of the piano tracks off Aphex Twin's Druqks Lp too.

I actually downloaded a few tracks off of music has the right to children (some of them were incomplete), back in 2005, then in 2006, I moved out of my town, and me and my flatmate were chilling with the light out, that's when they randomly kicked in on shuffle, and boy was I amazed. I had no net back then so I ended up listening to all of Pete standing alone, an eagle in your mind, olson, the color of the fire, wildlife analyis, kaini industries and some of rue the whirl, I don't remember details vividly, but it's something like this.

the color of the fire was the track that REALLY got to me, it still is, it's much more nostalgic than any of their other tracks, 2ndly comes ready let's go..

what shocked me most is listening to them on weed, back then, the vivid details, layers upon layers upon layers of sound...

to this day i can't even begin to voice how beautiful this music is.

My wife pretty much didn't like Boards at first - she very much likes music with words, so ambient stuff does very little for her. But sometimes, when she doesn't care, she'll leave it on in the car. She likes some of the more "upbeat" sounding BoC songs (Dayvan, Roygbiv, Aquarius), but the unsettling/sad/gloomy stuff still weirds her out a bit.

But she's gotten used to it enough now that she understands why I like it.

truthfully most of the people I've let listen to BoC have been begging me to make them copies of all of my albums. Everyone with at least decent taste in music can appreciate TCH even if electronic stuff isn't their thing.

My better half usually makes a comment about "That's some nice plinky-plonky music".
"Plinky-Plonky" music is her phrase for anything IDM, Ambient, Drone, or not ABBA.

She did however, admit that she enjoyed listening to BOC when travelling across Canada a few years ago. Sadly, she hates Aquarius and I got told off for teaching her little nephew to say "Orrrrrrange!".

whoa this is weird, I was actually watching this and other PIF films a few days ago.

If you're into this stuff and BoC...well, obviously you do- you should check out Ghost Box, particularly The Advisory Circle that touches a lot on the sound of early electronics much like BoC.

Why is it, that so much of the electronic music that IS produced, if i can be rude about it, it belongs a little, one feels, to the squeak and jibber school, so to speak...
