Which tracks make you dismiss the Old Tunes or 35 track tape

pps. I'm 90% sure the music track heard on Apparatus is an amiga tracker module. Probably from a game or some demo (as in demoscene). Anyone know the source?

Wow, awesome, that's it! Cool lol. What are you using to play it? I grabbed XMPlay but I can't find an option for tempo anywhere.

XMPlay is a module player program, not an editor. You'd need to get a tracker, like Modplug Tracker or something to edit the notes, parametres etc.

Keep in mind I'm talking about the AFOT version of Happy Cycling (i.e. this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YmiCRB4qyg ) and not the tremendous MHTRTC version of Happy Cycling that everyone's familiar with. Of course, you might be talking about that version too, in which case I apologize for coming across as condescending. However, at least in my view, I completely understand why BoC decided to reuse the title "Happy Cycling" for a completely different track that sounds nothing like the original (*cough* it's cause the original sucks *cough* )

But I love both versions. The Old Tunes one is so pretty. Listening to it again I can completely understand why you would think it sounds like shit, but the off-beat groove of it and that ambient polysynth make me feel so good every time the track comes on. You aren't condescending, by the way. Those confusions are bound to happen when a band releases two very different songs with the same name.

I'll just say the the Old Tunes version of Happy Cycling sounds a lot more "happy" than the other one.

I do agree on Music for Pylons though.

It wouldn't surprise me if B12 was Geyser from Hooper Bay, track length and just the feel of the song makes me think that. I like it but it seems to have that Twoism era feel to it, where you could say some of the music doesn't quite hang right with what came before and right after it. Thinking of Basefree here especially. (I prefer B12, in either case)

I genuinely cannot think of any old tunes that I dislike, but the one I listen to the least is most likely B5. B12 really does have a Twoism vibe to it, and I've always had a pretty strong feeling that Hooper Bay follows a similar bleak feel, so it would make sense that B12 were to fit in nicely. Great track imo.

What makes you say track length? I know tracks were most like truncated on the tape, but almost 2 minutes is quite a difference.

The David Came to Mahana'im as labeled on my tape is this track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B_6kWFtayY which I believe is correctly labeled. This track has a synth lead that I find utterly uninteresting. This synth lead, including variations of it, repeats over and over again for 4.5 minutes and comprises the entire track. Now, if you find this lead engaging and fun, you're gonna like this track, perhaps a lot. In which case, good on you. I'd rather like this track than not like it, and I'd rather you like it as well. However, if you, like me, just can't get into that synth lead at all, then you're gonna find this track pretty dull like I do. Unless I really want to force myself to listen to all the OTV2 tracks in order (or I'm zoning out/sleeping when this comes on), I pretty much always skip this track.

Also, House of Abin'adab is the worst song in the history of music.

Hey hey hey whoa there. Let's not make rash comments. I mean, Abin'adab is far from my favorite BoC track, but it's a BoC track. Pretty much every track they've made, even the "bad" ones (except for B05, which is legitimately terrible), is good compared to the entirety of music ever released. If you were to pit Abin'adab (and Mahana'im for that matter) against a random track selected from the Everything Music Library, I'd bet that it would come out the superior track much more often than not.

I prefer B05 to Abin'adab. It's all about that improv piano synth, really dark and atonal but somehow it works. But House of A is important because of it's similarities to the excerpt of Circle from Hooper Bay. David isn't bad if you like trancey repetitiveness.
